An even cheaper option is don't take both hands off the bars whilst moving   :sarc:

I fitted another Tourance rear tyre a couple of thousand miles ago and it is the first one to give me any problems.  It (since the rear tyre added - which replaced another Tourance) does give a strange shimmy whilst upright.  in bends it is fine.  It seems like the tread blocks are moving too much if you see what I mean.  I have lowered the pressure to see if it improved things (42 to 37) but no, so I will put it back to 42.

It moves alot when on rough tarmac, overbanding and white lines.  Not bad enough for me to change it but disconcerting nonetheless.

Very strange, I have owned plenty of Touances on 3 different bikes!!??

The tyre is very new at 3610 date code so it could be that it is still very flexible.  Or and bad batch.

I am afraid it is Anakee 2's for me next time!

Thought I'd wade in with my 2p's worth...

I, like many others, had trailwings on my V when I got it, the rear was almost new. Didn't find it a bad tyre, zoomed about as is my won't, scraping boots in corners etc, OK in the wet too, didn't know what everyone was on about it being so bad. But the bike did wobble if you took your hands off the bars for a stretch while decellerating into villages etc. Not the first bike I've had that did this, no big deal for me, just don't take your hands off....

I fitted a set of Tourances (based on all the positive reports) 3,500 miles ago and they were much better, a sharper turn in, more grip wet & dry and I still ride to the edges and scrape my boots. The wobble on decelleration is gone too. You can feel the bike squirm/move a little in corners, no big deal, I just ignore it. I think it's the tread blocks moving under load as they are taller/smaller than the Trailwings.

All in all I like the Tourances and they seem to be wearing very slowly - a bonus!

I find all modern tyres very refreshing - back in the early eighties I had some really intersting times on my CB900F with crossply ribbed tyres. Then you could overpower the tyre with ease and grip/stability was never to be taken for granted. Especially with my warped back wheel. Ahh, that just brought a fond memory of pi*sing on my red hot siezed rear bake disc as flames licked around the caliper...The girl on the back thought I was mental as I kicked out the brake pads and carried on.. :old:

Hi blokes. I too have got trailwings on my Wee .10reg . I find them OK for grip, so far so good. But I must abmit I'm now cautious in the rain & that's only due to what I have read here. Before the Wee I had a Aprilia Caponord which had tourances on it & she was brill in the corners & in the wet too. I only used tourances on the capo because they were so good and I did just under 40k on them with no probs at all. As there is only 2.5k on my Wee I can't see me changed my tyres soon.

Did that once when I forgot to reset to 36 after having the wife on the back, and found it too loose and squirrelly on the rear. Unsettling to say the least :-(

Everyone seems to be saying the tourances are well planted in the bends. Mine were squrmy as hell toward the edges when cornering hard. could get the peg down but they always felt like they were about to let go and you could feel them slipping a touch if you kept on the power. Tried all tyre pressures and shock settings to plant it with poor results.  maybee I just had a bad batch or something ??

Anyway I've got anakees on now and I love them to bits and knee downing is now easily achievable with a bit of monkey hanging now with no worries of a let go.

Still have the tourance front tyre in the shed with 2-3 mm of tread left   FREE TO ANYONE WHO WANTS IT  :thumb:

Up-date re Tourances,
Just got 100% refund after sending the tyres back to Pirelli, obviuosly they would not admit any fault on their part, and to be fair they did give me my money back.
But honestly there is absolutely no comparison between the tourances and the anakees, the anakees are brill!!!

I have a theory ... the Tourances, like the trialwings are dual sport Tyres, 80% 20% road/off road and there are consequences to pushing them hard. The Anakees I believe are 100% road Tyres with cuts too look like the dual sports cos people like me want the chunky look to match the bike. And when pushed hard into corners work the same as the road pilot counterparts. Which also explains the lower mileage estimates, and you can't have high longevity and excellent wet & dry grip, you have to compromise one or the other. It's all about physics.

Just a thought after 3'500 wonderful miles thanks to Michelin, and I ain't swapping back .... ever :-)

Can I add that in this modern age, all know brand Tyres have good grip levels these days and only when pushing through corners going to the edge of the front (not rear) that the differences show through. Anyone can scrub a rear tyre on a neutral throttle, its accelerating in corners that shows how planted the bike is.

Right as you all know I'm new to the forum and new to the vee also, I test rode one with tourances on it and loved it, grip felt good and I had way way more confidence in the bike and grip than I had over my bandit running on a fresh set of Dunlop Sportmax roadsmarts, which I have been informed by quite a few hardcore speed merchants are pretty much one of the best non track tyres you can get..... I didn't get on well with them at all. I had zero confidence in the wet due mainly to a wee slide 2 days after passing my test and getting the bandit, it was a bit of diesel or something on the corner but I did scare the crap outta me at the time and luckily I was slow enough that I didn't go down. I never have become that out of my head and I hated cornering in the wet as a result. I KNOW the tyres were good, the bike was good I KNOW it was just me that was the issue but I could never get over it and so I decided to get the vee strom. The test ride was great I felt able to throw the bike about way harder than I would the bandit and just today got my own wee, its on the bog std trailwings and I'm kind of worrying about all the negativity I have read on forums but I'm buggered if ill get rid of a set of tyres that have only done 92 miles !!!!!
What I will say from my admitidly short wet and windy run home was they felt fine, I couldn't try corners too fast due to the mental wind but on roundabots through the towns they felt good, I was definitely going quicker than I would have on the bandit and the bike just simply stuck and did as I asked it.

Right now after reading this and a load of other threads I'm worrying if keeping the trailwings on could be a bad idea but I loathe the thought of getting new rubber when these tyres are brand spanking new and not even ran in! The tourances definitely have a higher speed wobble, I felt it on the test ride but put it down to me pushing the bike on fairly hard over a hump backed bridge. The dealer recommends me to leave it alone and that the trailwings are a spot on tyre, I have no reason at all not to trust him on it and the director of the dealership uses them on his vee's that go all over europe every summer and he loves them.
Id bloody cry if I dropped this bike it my first new machine ever and I love it to bits.

Depends entirly how you ride. If you take your time and not riding about with a screw loose like say erm ... me for instance, then the TW's are a decent enough all round tyre, nothing particulally bad or brilliant about them. And in the wet they are far more stable than the Tourances.
I bought my Wee with the worst ever Tyres made but stuck with them cos I was going into Winter, and I hate wasting money!! I just had to ride to the limits of the Pirellis, is all!! Tyres are far too expensives to just chop and change.

The Wee will always feel better than the Bandit cos the suspension is fecking dreadfull on them, way too soft for that frame, like a budget pogo stick when pushed through the corners, and scary as hell.

I bought my Anakee II's for the wet grip and turns out the dry grip is also oustanding, and feels like a proper road sport tyre so yippee for me   :lala:

PS: If you think you're going to drop your bike? You probably will! Sad fact of nature I'm afriad, that worrying about something generally makes it come true, so chill and and be positive and ride only as fast as you can see

PPS: Dunlop Sportmax?? Utter shite, the Bandit 600S I bought for my wife has them, and unless it's bone dry they are going to kill me. Thankfully the wife is taking everything steady being a n00bie so nothing to worry about, once her speed picks up those suicide Tyres have to go for Road Pilot 2's

Well, I'm moving from a Van Van to a Wee - slightly different tyre profile. Hoping that my experience of the VV will help me get used to the Trailwings (only done 1400 mls so will have them for a while)

Not had my 1000 long and I have only done about 600 miles on it, on mostly damp or cold roads.
The bike has well Trail Wings on it and I found it holds the road quite well, I am getting alomst to the edge of the type tread on the rear and I will probally replace like with like.
I am not really into track days, so this isn't a consideration and almost all of the mileage I do will be two up on tarmac, so off road performance isn't really that important either.
Before anyone asks, I selected the V Strom becuse I like the seating position given by this type of bikes and the 1000 , with its luggage seems perfect for what I want to do on a bike.

Mostly two up and not acting a tit, then enojy the trialwings and switch to the improved Battlewings after about 7K miles of use. Same Tyres but next generation  :lala:
