Thought I'd wade in with my 2p's worth...
I, like many others, had trailwings on my V when I got it, the rear was almost new. Didn't find it a bad tyre, zoomed about as is my won't, scraping boots in corners etc, OK in the wet too, didn't know what everyone was on about it being so bad. But the bike did wobble if you took your hands off the bars for a stretch while decellerating into villages etc. Not the first bike I've had that did this, no big deal for me, just don't take your hands off....
I fitted a set of Tourances (based on all the positive reports) 3,500 miles ago and they were much better, a sharper turn in, more grip wet & dry and I still ride to the edges and scrape my boots. The wobble on decelleration is gone too. You can feel the bike squirm/move a little in corners, no big deal, I just ignore it. I think it's the tread blocks moving under load as they are taller/smaller than the Trailwings.
All in all I like the Tourances and they seem to be wearing very slowly - a bonus!
I find all modern tyres very refreshing - back in the early eighties I had some really intersting times on my CB900F with crossply ribbed tyres. Then you could overpower the tyre with ease and grip/stability was never to be taken for granted. Especially with my warped back wheel. Ahh, that just brought a fond memory of pi*sing on my red hot siezed rear bake disc as flames licked around the caliper...The girl on the back thought I was mental as I kicked out the brake pads and carried on..
