Well, it's happened. Alec passed away quietly this morning at home with his wife beside him. I've been over and said my goodbye's with a mixture of grief and joy, no more suffering for either of them. I stayed until his body was taken away by the funeral director's and helped a bit with the funeral planning. After that Andrea wanted a bit of well earned 'me time' and was going to visit a few places they used to go to together in happier times. Thankfully, as he was in the Palliative Care system a PM is not required. I've rang a few people on her behalf to break the bad news and take a little bit off her plate. Sad times...

A relief that he's no longer suffering, but sad, sad times that you're friend has passed away.
I'm not religious, but bless you for doing so much for Alec. I'm sure you only tell us the minor details, but now you can find peace in knowing you were a friend until the end.

A friend in need is a friend indeed. Blummin hard though isn't it.

Sorry to hear that 2112, but it is good to know that he had Andrea with him until the end & you were there later for Andrea.
No more suffering for Alec but a great loss to his family & friends.

RIP Alec.

As above 2112. Sorry for your loss but also it sounds like it's a happy release. Thoughts to all who knew Alec.

Sorry for your loss 2112. Easy words to say but hardly adequate. There will always be an empty Alec shaped space for his friends and family but there will be memories of the good times and there will be laughter recalling some of the crazy things that everybody goes through.

I'm a bit late to the news Bryan but I'm very to sorry to hear of your loss. As people have said, it's a mixed blessing but always sad. May he rest in peace and his wife have many happy memories.

Cheers folks, really, really appreciated and very welcome  :thumb:

We've been around to see Andy today and she's putting on a brave face, keeping busy and organising Alec's funeral. She's decided on Northumberland Woodland Burials and it's not going to be until the 16th of January ! There is a shortage of crematoria in Northumberland and the places are booked up solid. She's sorted out some great pictures of Alec and we're going to have a chat with the Humanist to build up a good life story. He'll definitely get the send off he deserves.

Condolences to all.

We all have family and friends depart, always sad times of course.

Alec couldn't have had a better chum!
So how's it going so far then?

Sadly, yet more bad news for me (this is turning out to be a December to forget...) with the passing of my cousing Jim from a brain tumour. He was in his 80's and had been treated earlier in the year, but it showed up again in November's follow up scan. He was due to go in for another round of treatment on Friday...

Sorry to hear of your further bad news. Some Christmas it's going to be for you. I think it tells you to live for today because the end comes too soon. May he rest in peace because I guess the tumour gave him no peace at all.
