Brockett I emphasise with your thoughts. Having attended many suicides earlier in my life I can say it's definitely time that those who wished to end their lives in a respectable and acceptable way were allowed to do so.
Unfortunately it is unlikely to happen anytime soon, the medical profession and politicians are involved; it can't end well.
I do wonder if it would be better to outsource this away from public health entirely, why not follow the Swiss model?
I also emphasise with what you would have gone through in the investigative stage of the deaths you witnessed and the subsequent fallout beyond.
Either way I'm very glad I'm not someone having to consider this final journey at this time.

Bucks Council did not get the memo about the snow. It was coming down big time as I set off to the bike show this morning and the steep hill I have to go down into town was not gritted. The A40 (a major trunk route) was not gritted either. And the M40 was... not gritted! The first 20 miles was either squeaky bum and/or crawling speed until I got down off the Chilterns and well into Oxfordshire. Shocking.

Yep, I'll be swapping on to the winter wheels and tyres for the car this weekend I reckon.
Fortunately the missus is driving us to MCL on Saturday and she's fully winter booted already.
It'll be 20 degrees now, you're all welcome

I don't do either now. Work or go outside. I find it very difficult to drive in the dark and so I don't. The short days restrict me to 4 hours between peak traffic and it's a bit too chilly for motorcycle fun. Hats off to motorcycle commuters.
This doesn't last forever, so do it while you can. Nothing travels faster than the speed of time.

Driving in the dark is becoming more difficult for everyone because so many vehicles now have very bright lights that may be good for the user but blinding for everyone else. It's hard to see cyclists, pedestrians and even potholes with laser lights shinning in your eyes (almost laser lights).

I think also that when these lights are used on main beam where safe, it is hard to see the lights of an oncoming vehicle coming around a bend so causes late dipping. Life's a bitch sometimes.  :thumb:

My car is probably part of the problem, high, incredibly bright LED matrix lights which turn night to day. They have a 'smart' sensor which auto dips and drops out parts of the matrix so it doesn't dazzle other road users, if it can detect their light. I've noticed that it doesn't register cars with halogen bulbs very well, but is great with HID & LED types. Must be to do with the luminous output ? I've not been flashed by another motorist yet, but it literally lights up the road for well over a mile on high beam.

I think its more the need to get there fast; all those attributes to the modern car makes no sense for cautious driving.....just steam ahead regardless.

We, everybody, doesn't need to be so much in a rush all the time with no regard to other road users. At night it's a race as to who can drive the fastest. I've just driven back from Strasbourg to Brittany accross country, yesterday was about an hour in darkness. Whilst I accept local knowledge is a great bonus for those in the know but with rain, lack of sufficient road markings, signs etc. I felt pushed by other drivers who only wanted their route unobstructed. I give way at that point.

Today was the same, snow in the middle of France but they still drove like a fine Summer's day.

So how's it going so far then?

I got a phone call out of the blue from my former employer asking me if I could do some consultancy work for them. It's to deliver some training courses in Liverpool and Berlin of all places. Hmmm, interesting...

On the bright side, maybe the consultancy work will be able to help fund your next ride :thumb:

2112, trips to Liverpool (where I lived until age 17) and Berlin. I would jump at the chance, I've been to Berlin three times before the wall came down and loved it, haven't been since though.  :thumb:

Well it looks like my terminally ill mate is getting married next Friday! It appears a 'special licence' has been granted for a ceremony at home (we will find out for definite on Monday, but they were 99.99% confident it would go through). I've been asked to be a witness to the events as has my wife and we are both very happy and very sad about the wedding. It'll be a busy day as we're off for a wine tasting weekend in Bellingham the same day and I've got to pick up & drop off his mother (who has dementia) too. Stag do in Ibiza ???

Bryan, that is wonderful & very sad/emotional in the same amounts.
Wishing your mate & his partner/future wife a great day & much happiness in the time that remains.
