Well, today didn't turn out like I thought. Visited my poorly mate in Ashington, he was quite chirpy but getting thinner by the day. He seemed in quite good spirits as Andrea was going to take him for a run out in the car tomorrow and he was looking forward to it. Sadly, his vocal communications have all but vanished and it's now a game of guess the object when he points at something. All fairly good so far, then we went to see the mother in law who was given some antibiotics yesterday for the swelling & redness where three of her Lymph glands were removed under her arm. My wife was horrified by how much the infection had spread and how hot the area was. Bugger, off to the RVI Hospital in Newcatle it is then. Of course for added difficulty the Newcastle v Fulham match was 30 mins from kick off and all the streets around St James' Park were heaving (the RVI is very close to Newcastles ground). Anyhow, we got her in to A&E after quite a wait and she was taken into a small ward of 4 beds for intravenous antibiotics! We've no idea how long she'll be in but they took it very seriously. We'll be back in tomorrow to see how she's getting along but at 84 she really could do without this... We got home just after 8 o'clock, so a takeaway it is then.

Sorry to hear this 2112. Hope mother-in-law is out soon, and that Alec manages to get out with Andrea tomorrow.

Feel for you 2112, sounds physically and mentally exhausting, but you're doing so much good.

2112  - sometime we just need to let it out and this is an OK place for it.  You're among friends.

Cheers Brock'  :thumb:

We've had an update from the mother in law, she had a visit at 21:00 from the plastic surgery reconstruction team. They were more than a bit concerned by the size and colour of the infected area so carried out inserting a drain to ease the pressure. Apparently they got two litres of rather nasty looking brown fluid out of the area. It was instant relief by all accounts and she's had a fairly comfortable night. Two more 4 hour sessions of I've antibiotics today, so she's going to be in for another night at least. She was supposed to be seeing the specialist tomorrow at 09:00 so he can just walk along the corridor now!

In other news, the Mrs had a routine blood test on Friday and was horrified to discover that she's lost an inch and is now only 4'11" ! No matter how many times I sang the 'Umpa Lumpa' song from Charlie and the chocolate factory it just didn't cheer her up?

Two litres of nasty brown liquid, reminds me of the time I drank Newcastle Brown in a Blythe boozer. Well you have to have a couple of litres just to see if you like it or not.
Please don't tell Er'Indoors we all shrink as we get older, or if you do be very near to the exit door.
Stick with it fella.

Yes, it's a tad nippy today. The good news is the mother in law has responded well to the I V antibiotics and the swelling & redness had gone down significantly. They are keeping her in tonight as she has another two courses of AB's and they will review tomorrow. The surgeon who carried out the original operation is coming to see her tomorrow and they will discuss what happens next. It may require a small operation but we'll have to wait & see.

On another cheery note, my mate got his run out in the car today. A nice bimble up the coast to Alnmouth & back and an ice cream too. Happy days.

We try to get together at Christmas. Christmas isn’t the important thing, it’s all of us trying get together as it the best time for them to try and get the same time off.

Work commitments of my sons and their wives means it more convenient for them all to descend on me.🤷‍♂️😱

Year before last I did a BBQ…. That worked out well.  This year I’ll try and be a bit more traditional. 👍

I'll probably go for a ride on Dartmoor Christmas day, it may be cold but as long as it doesn't empty down I'll have a nice day. I rode from home to Dartmoor Christmas day some years ago. It was cold and every inch of water, especially on the road, had frozen to ice. There was no salt/grit on most of the roads I was riding and there was nobody around. What a lovely day. Flask of tea and some lunch sitting on a bridge over a river. Beautiful.  :auto-dirtbike: :thumb:

Yes! I would like to be with family and close friends but I do like to be mostly independent and it's hard to have both.  :auto-dirtbike: :thumb:

We did a ride to Abergavenny and Brecon one year on Boxing Day…….didn’t go down well with one part of the family who had always expected freeloading on us both Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

Now it’s just my son’s and their families. The nine of us do our own thing……. the others can do one.

Another mixed bag for me today, my mate had a really bad spell last night and they had to get the Doctor out. He's over-producing mucus and then slowly choking/drowning on it, which is as horrible as it sounds. He's had a Hyoscine Butylbromide injection from the Doc' and it's helped but he's very tired.

On a brighter note, the mother in law is well on the mend and we took her home from Hospital this afternoon. She has a drain fitted (which seems to be filling up very quickly) and is generally quite chiry and pleased to be out of Hospital. Frustratingly, she's back in on Monday for an appointment with a Consultant based on the same ward she was on...

Today, I went over to pick the car up from the bodyshop in Ashington. Yet more damage down the side and another £400 repair. This time not 100% the wifes fault, although she will insist on parking as close as possible to wherever she is going rather than parking at the remote end of the car park where no one else parks and the car NEVER gets scratched...

On a much brighter note my mate was quite chirpy and alert today and looked the best he has done in a while.
