On reflection .... it's fair to point out that 'in my humble opinion' I love the ana's cos I ride with a fair amount of enthusiasm, shall we say. If I was touring Europe and going at a decent pace rather than a manic one. then the Battlewings NOT Trialwings would be my tyre of choice. Decent all rounder both wet & dry with no issues and excellent longevity touching near 8K
Nearly got the Tourances but after asking about, many agreed they had better dry grip than the b/wings but wet grip is poor in comparison.

My 2 cents after owning both the Vee and the Wee and loving them both 4 years later :thumb:

why battlewings and not trailwings?

Hopin the trailwings will be OK cos looks like I've got 7k+ miles to do on em

They are the older design that was one of 4 different versions of the same tyre for the Strom, Capanord, GS and the Varadero. Bridgestone upgraded to the Battlewings or "Trialwing IIs" if you like

I've had Anakee 2's fitted today - my deathwings had done just over 11,300 miles and the rear was sadly beyond legal (only noticed on sunday)
The Anakees instantly provided loads more grip in the wet and wild conditions but they feel very different to the deathwings - the bike tips over very readily (whereas a good yank of countersteer was always required before) but once leaned over it still just seems to want to go in a straight line, very odd indeed!

Reminds me when I got my anakees fitted, thought someone forgot to tighten the front axle bolt cos it tipped over so fast. Take some getting used to but once there they rule :-)

I just got a quote of £255 for a pair fitted.

How does this compare?

Fitted an Anakee 2 to the rear today, the Maxxis that was on there lasted for 7.1k miles. The Maxxis was so square I could stand the tyre up and let go of it and it would stay like that. Motorway miles are killing my tyres quickly so I hope the Anakees 2s will get a bit better mileage than the Maxxis ones (Michelin claim 29% better mileage than 2 other leading manufactures of dual sport tyres.) I still have the Maxxis on the front, it will last another 2 months by my estimations then I'm putting an Anakee 2 on the front too. I took some pictures (with comments) of the worn out Maxxis if anyone is interested. In the first picture you can clearly see the depth of the outside tread compared to the inside tread. I forgot to take a picture that shows how square it was. I can't really fault the Maxxis tyres, they did what they had too and I never had any moments on them in any kind of weather. Once the new Anakee 2 is worn out I'll have something to compare the mileage figure too and then I'll know if it was good or bad. I suspect that if I didn't do such a large amount of motorway riding they'd last better. The edges were hardly worn at all.

The anakees only seem to wear out quicker as you will push them harder, faster and with more confidence than you would with other brands

I agree, these are the best tyres I have ever used!
I started the trip on Maxxis, these were good on the gravel of the dalton, but only lasted 4500 miles. then George put on a tourance and I put on an Anakee 2, I loved it... the confidence on the twisties was incredible and I had the rubber rolling off the edges at times (never had spare peg sliders so wore the pegs out!) And to top it all of it lasted 12,500 miles, most of which in a straight line but nearly 1000 miles of abuse off road and that is fully loaded with camping gear etc...
After the anakee I had a Shinko, which after 6k was nackered, and for the last 1000 miles  the rubber was peeling away from the carcass!
Its a Michelin that will be going back on!

I'm puzzled as to why you loved the Anakees then went onto another tyre??

Tyres are so expensive, I stick with what I know works for me, and lots of checking of reviews ;-)

That's good news, I have one on the rear at the moment and do a lot of motorway miles so a long lasting tyre that's good in the wet too is what I need.

I went to another tyre for three reasons, the first was that I had only done 4000miles on the Anakee when I bought 2 new tyres, I did not realise that the anakee would last so long and grip so well, I had bought it in Seattle and ridden through the states on it which is all straight roads and all tyres feel good on those roads! (I bought new tyres and carried them as they are hard to find and expensive in Central/South America)
Second reason is that the Shinko tyres I bought were bloody cheap! like $190 for front and back, the Anakee was $180 just for the rear.
Third reason is that I don't really care what tyres I'm on as long as they last... and now I know that the Anakee lasts longer than any other I have tried I will stick to that  :thumb:

Also... just to prove our point on tyres being hard to find in South America, when George needed to replace his rear tyre we could not find one, when we did it cost him $300 for an Anakee rear! It was just luck that it was a good tyre as you kind of have to take what is on offer... just as long as its black n round ey

Now, that's what I call a road test!  Convinced me Chris - Anakees for me next up, especially since you confirmed that they are black and round! that's a good combo!
