V Strom 1050 Price.
« on: June 27, 2020, 12:41:57 »
Hello, not sure I'm in a minority here, but I've really took a shine to the new 1050 and I'm really tempted to trade up from my current Glee. One thing I've learnt with Suzuki's is the list price always tumbles within a short space of time. So my question is, what price do people think a (for eg) 1050 XT will settle at in the coming weeks. As an example there's a pre reg XT on e bay for £10200 and a base model for £8999.

Cheers.

The 2014 daft pointy version was launched at around £10k naked, within a couple of months they were £7,995 with full luggage and other accessories. Suzuki know how to treat their early adopters  :icon_no:

I hope you're right. There doesn't seem to be much love for the 1050 and certainly not many posts from new owners on here, so maybe they aren't selling very many at all. Could be the CV situation not helping of course. I think the 1050 looks superb and the reviews mostly seem positive.

I wonder how much of an effect the issue of only being able to get the top spec model with spoked wheels is to prospective buyers? If I was in the market for one I'd like all of the lovely technical gubbins but with the cast rims. That option isn't offered. Seems a bit short sighted of them.

I'd be quite happy with the base model and the money saved! But I'm not going to look at one as I might buy it!

I'll be looking at a new 1050 soon, I would like the top model but not spoked wheels, did I read a while back a shop swapped the wheels between models which would make sense as there will be some who would prefer the cheaper one with spokes?

Haha, looks like there might be a few of us asking if the wheels can be swapped for cast ones as I also definitely don't want spokes either.

A 1050 XT in red/white with cast wheels for £9000 - 9500 and I'll be chomping at the bit to buy one.

Not a beak lover and I personally wouldn't choose the yellow, but nevertheless the best looking model since the Glee.

Even allowing for financial constraints Suzuki could have done a lot better with the V-Strom range but IMHO could do a lot worse than give the 650 a makeover in the same style.

Oh and upgrade the brakes...
Suzuki’s ever-popular SV650 will come with improved stopping power in 2019, thanks to an upgrade to new four-piston front brake calipers.

No excuse not too  :GRR:

You can buy the new 1050 with cast wheels:

https://bikes.Suzuki.co.uk/bikes/adventure/v-strom-1050/

The XT as you say comes with spokes but they have launched a cheaper entry level model on their website for £9,999. Although as soon as you add some options it gets a little high, but still massively cheaper than a KTM or BMW. If you get a chance, watch this video as he mentions the V-Strom's far more advanced engine towards the end (10.04 minutes) of the review:

It all depends which KTM you're comparing it against: the 1290 that is a mile ahead in practically every measure at under £2k more than an XT, or a 790 that is closer and under £9,800?

Suspect if they’re not selling Suzuki will have to cave in, I would also want cast wheels. As mentioned somewhere else the cost of spare parts for a non premium bike is also looking less and less appealing.
Past 12 months has seen some fierce competition lining up against the new Strom, flexibility and discounts have to be there if they want to shift units.

Not even having the extra gadgets available on the base model (it's not really) as options is sheer idiocy.

Given you can get a late 69 reg for £10k with full luggage and other accessories, before haggling/trade in.

I'd stick with the 1000. It's had a lot of it's niggles worked out and dealers should be well aware of what to look out for.

On the 1050 it's new territory and I'm just not convinced I'd want to be an early adopter of new electrics in a new design...
