So this evening I transplanted my GS500's battery (MotoBatt MB10U) in and it started up straight away. I guess the other one is just not delivering those cold cranking amps anymore.

Also mainly a Honda issue, but check the connections

Guess I will be checking those now..

Aye there's the rub - I=v/r
Resistance of starter motor windings is r and v is voltage reading as you try to turn it over.
If v is still reasonbly high as you describe then the amps/current should have been flowing.
I is amps of course.

Could be corrosion on the connection into the starter right? Does look like it's in the perfect place to corrode where it is. I'll check it.

Good idea, had to rig it up with jump leads due to the bigger size of the Strom battery. It didn't start either.

That, or my measuring is off!

Measuring the voltage on start was not the easiest thing, especially since I didn't think at the time to just tie the clutch down so I could hold the probes rather than just resting them gently on the terminals..

Yeah no my measuring was way off. I went down and redid it properly and honestly it goes down to like 10 just having the ignition on! Press the starter and the meter basically crashes.
