Talked to my dealer yesterday. In Portugal, there will be XT version as normal sail. Standard version only by order. And looking at comparision list he showed me, XT has all the gadgets and standard one looks like a poor brother. No gadgets at all. So everything new that was announced, it's all for XT only. The standard version doesn't even bring cornering ABS. My current '18 model DL1000, standard version, has cornering ABS. So, cruise control, USB socket under the seat, Hill Hold etc, only on XT version.

Well, yes. From Suzuki website:
"The Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (S.I.R.S) includes the Motion Track Brake System, Hill Hold Control System, Slope Dependent Control System and Load Dependent Control System that assist in braking, and the Cruise Control System, Suzuki Drive Mode Selector (SDMS), and Traction Control System that assist in driving. The system provides users with intelligent controls to enhance ease of use and convenience in touring and daily life."
However, when the time comes, and it will probably be only after facelift somewhere in 2023, I'll buy standard version. I don't care about all those gadgets.
The only thing that I really like on newer bikes is ABS. All the rest for me are just toys. 30 years ago we didn't even have disk brakes front and back. I remember owning Jawa 350 two stroke and loving that bike. No disk brakes.
So, I don't care... If they keep on bringing more and more gadgets, probably some day motorcycles will be "riding" by themselves, there will be no need for a rider. We will probably be seated in pillion seat reading newspapers, just like in those advertisements for cars without driver...

I learnt the other day exactly what KTM stands for .... "Keep Taking Money" ... So far, in 4000 miles, my new 790 Adv R has had:

2 x output shaft oil seals
1 x service light reset due to software bug
1 x Gearbox shaft reset

And still requires:

1 x Dash (full of condensation)
1 x gearbox shaft reset (SW bug thinks the quickshifter is active when I havnt paid for it)
1 x clutch inspection due to oil jet clogging in the main shaft

Luckily its all under warranty..... should have bought the AJP  :groan:
tinker, tweek, fettle....bodge, bang, bugger!!!

I'm lucky, I've had Hill hold, or Hill Assist on every single bike I've owned over the last 43 years, it's called the front and rear brake.

So that's why they left the oil out on the service, so it wouldn't leak as bad  lol

I must admit to have had serious thoughts about buying the new 1050 until this turned up

Hopefully they've sorted the fuel tank manufacturing problem... https://adventurebikerider.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=49332&hilit=Honda

Yes Lincsman I like the look of that too. And the standard model is going to be 500 quid cheaper than the base vstrom, similar level of equipment as standard.
I'm sure the GT or Rally models will push up the price quite a bit but I'm  OK with the tiger900.
Like its only 195kg dry weight, the Suzuki is 236kg wet and then some I'd  say. Another option.

I got in touch with my local Triumph dealership in Lincoln, and his best guess on the price of the top of the range is around £13000. So the middle option I guess could be around £11000, which is smack bang where the 1050 is. Out of the two, for me, the Triumph wins hands down. My mate has a Tiger 800, and the quality of the components in comparison to my 650 is very noticeable.
It unfortunately comes down to how much I'd get for my V Strom. Red for me is the one I'd go for.
I've had my Thunderbird 900 for almost 25 years, and that engine is something else, so I've no doubt that the Tiger 900, will be a blinding engine indeed.

There will be a massive difference between your old thunderbird and the new tiger.
The main thing you will notice is the build quality, the new tiger won't last 25 years as bikes these days are built to a budget.

Maybe or maybe not. I do, like all on here, try my best to look after my bike. And the Tiger would be no exception.
Not bad for almost 25 years old.

Having had a 2012 tiger800 before the Veek I can tell you the tiger is much better finished. Suzuki still use rubber brake lines, paint on as thin as they can get it and those horrible dark green bolts and panel fasteners that corrode like mad. We'll not talk about electrical connections that are not waterproof!
The light weight will attract me, my 12 tiger felt much lighter than the vstrom does.
But as you say Lincsman it's all down to what the strom is worth come trade in, and in my case that's not much. Local Yamaha dealer offered 2.5k straight sale or 3.5k trade in off a tracer gt at 11k. March 15 vstrom with 30k miles.

I was offered £3000 trade in for the top of the range Tiger 900. But to be fair the dealer didn't see my bike, it was a guess that my bike would be in good condition ( which it is ) My bikes only 3.5 yrs old with 20,000 miles on it. Can't really say yes to that, but other dealers may come up with more   £££. I do like that Tiger a lot, but I don't want to just give away a perfectly good bike to get it.  :icon_no:

Everyone seems to have gone quiet regarding the V-Strom 1050 since its launch at Eicma 2019. I think after all the hype by Suzuki beforehand and everyone was expecting a totally different new model Suzuki launched the same V-Strom basically as the present models. The only difference being a facelift to the fairings, headlight and cruise control.I bought my fourth V-Strom 1000 XT this year and I will not be changing to the 1050 model. The price has also risen considerably for the XT models and also delivery is not expected until mid April which in my opinion is too late. I think it's time Suzuki stopped playing catch up with others and starting being innovative for a change.Honda with the New Africa twin is a good example of leading the competitors and watching Suzuki struggling behind to make sales.

Why does Suzuki not build a 1200cc, 140bhp, V-Strom and a 800cc-850cc, 95bhp, V-Strom (max 210Kg).

This would address the requirements of the power seekers and the lighter weight seekers.

The new 1050 & the existing 650 are just sending customers elsewhere.

Development.

Costs.

Loads....
To be happy, I don't need private helicopters,a Florida house or a yacht. I'm fine with my motorcycle,a trip to a forest in Bavaria and some lunch money.
