So apparently we should all be using gear oil for our chains?

FortNine's YouTube channel (they're a Canadian shop I believe). The presenter first explains, the parts of a chain, then does some tests on different potential chain lubes (from Muck Off to standard WD40 & even kitchen grease).
He didn't test the standard ScottOiler stuff though.

Every chain I've ever fitted has had the same care instructions regarding the use of gear oil as a lube.

I think we've all been fooled into buying all the other products.

Lots of products out there that don't work at all but in my opinion either engine or gear oil give best results with the downside of flicking off everywhere.
I know a bloke who used to use his old engine oil to lube his chain on his CB500, he made a contraption to stop the rain washing the chain where it ran past the wheel. He had seen wey over 50k from his chain and sprockets.

The only flaw in his testing I could point to was that the tests were separate, but really should have rolled them all up to simulate real life use I.e. apply the schmoo, run it on his spinny thing and then see if what's left still protects the chain & lubes the rollers. It's just unrealistic to say that the chain will always have a generous application of the oil on it to stop the rust.
That aside, I probably agree that an oil based system is best, hence a PD Oiler on the 990. I can't find a way to fit one to the Guzzis though...

Loobman oilers. No electrickery, no vacuum pipes just press the button for 3 to 5 seconds every hundered miles or so.
If you google it then don't google "Lubeman" or you'll see things you'd rather not.
Mines uses cheapo B&M etc. chainsaw oil
