-1 for earplugs. Recently started wearing them and went deaf. Doc says, you put stuff in your lugs and it encourages them to produce wax. You're deaf because your lugs are full of wax because you've been wearing ear plugs.
Damned if I do, damned if I don't.

Very bad advice... I think your an extreme case, just unlucky.
For most people earplugs stop them going deaf..

Also earwax can cleared and hearing returns. Noise related hearing damaged cannot be fixed, if your lucky you just go deaf and don't get tinnitus...

Regarding screens.
I have had many different screens with madstad and normal brackets.
I currently have an airflow screen and standard bracket, this eliminates buffeting but not wind noise. I'm happy with the screen etc now as the buffeting is gone and because I'm 6ft 3 and pretty wide It's unlikely that I wI'll completely eliminate wind noise using screens etc.

(Oh and I also replaced the mirrors which again got rid of buffeting but not noise)

Just to be completey clear again it's NOT a buffeting issue I have its just a general noise issue on the motorway a combination of wind and just normal engine/traffic noise.

I will be getting some cheap foam earplugs and see how they go. Probably try the mixed bag that rich suggested too.

As much as enjoy receiving credit I believe it was Simon that posted up the link to the "mixed bag" of ear plugs.
I tried a few different ones but settled on 'E.A.R Soft FX Ear Plugs' as the best fit & quietest for me. The are quite large (or wide when expanded) which is what I needed as I have large ear holes.

I was also given some fancy rubber re-usable ones that are pretty good, made by PINLOCK.
Not as quiet as the foam ones but for days when I'm doing lower speeds I'll wear those instead.

I have both the Schuberth C3 basic - a flip up and the S2. Both are quiet, I find the S2 quieter and more comfortable. There are deals on the net for around £250 now on the S2. It has the windjammer piece as you call it.

It's by far the most comfortable and best helmet I have had.

Hi everyone. Little update!

Vanity got the better of me and I bought a new helmet....hjc is max 2. Everything I want in a helmet. Flip front. Internal sun visor. Insanely comfy and fits amazingly.

The real update here is how right you blokes were though...when I bought the helmet I saw some 40p foam earplugs and thought...meh ...worth a shot..put them in (With my old helmet) for the drive home and Oh MY GOD!!! I CAN'T BELIEVE I DIDN'T DO THIS SOONER!!!!!!!!!!
quite seriously changed my life haha...Did a little 30.min motorway trip with them in on the way home and just didn't want to get off the bike. Such a drastic reduction in wind noise but could still hear my phone/music well.

Thanks so much for persevering with the recommendations of ear plugs it really has changed my riding experience!!! :happydance: ###

Ear plugs are the future!!  :thumb: If they'd been in my past I wouldn't have to say pardon so often!!!

I almost bought a HJC instead of the AGV, but yes.. Earplugs actually make riding more pleasurable rather than less. :thumb:

I have the HJC RPHA Max flip up helmet. I do really like it, but compared to what my dad says about his Schuberth... it's still not as quiet.

I do wear auritech ear plugs, the little black Christmas trees with a white filter in the end. Blocks enough harmful noise, but I can still hear people talking to me

I've got a bit carried away and gone all fancy...Splashed out on some £1.13 Christmas tree ones from B and Q. There's no stopping me now!

Considering a pair of those specially moulded ones to fit your ear. (won't be until after next pay day though! or maybe even the one after.)

My wife couldn't get on with normal throw away plugs, they never seemed to fit her properly, so at one of the bike shows she opted for the moulded fit ones, she says they are great  :thumb:

And they must be cos she even wears them to bed
