Fitted yet another output shaft seal, the original I replaced wasn't leaking why the f*ck I changed it is beyond me :violence-smack:. Idiot. Added 50ml 5wt to each fork leg to stop / lessen the diving.

My afternoon nap was interupted by Power Junior on her new 'bike.

I went for a blast on it, what an engine, what a 'bike. Not for me though as much as it's a naked, I  felt I was riding a sportsbike, all hunched shoulders, knees well bent. Modern fuel injection and mapping is epic.
To be happy, I don't need private helicopters,a Florida house or a yacht. I'm fine with my motorcycle,a trip to a forest in Bavaria and some lunch money.

Took Nelson for another short ride out getting the mileage up to 380!
Up to today I have struggled a little with the bike and didn't really understand why. I was getting a headache after about 45 mins and my hands were aching after an hour or so.
What have I learned so far after today.
Fuel economy is improved by wearing ear plugs. I started riding the bike the way it should be rode rather than trying to make music with the exhaust. I think the hand pain comes from holding on tightly whilst making that music.
By removing the exhaust noise, I have realised that from about 45mph upwards, my helmet gets noisy and buffeting is affecting me quite badly. I now suspect this is the cause of the headaches. (higher Honda screen fitted) I may try the lower screen or adding spacers to change the angle of the current one. Maybe a job for tomorrow after the Squires meet if anyone is still going.
I am also suffering with buffeting around my stomach area and believe that some of this comes from wind flow up from the forks. Some clever Africa Twin blokes have created a solution to this with a rubber shield fitted in front of the tank that resolves this. I have the template, I just need some rubber.

Finally, I caught up with a couple of blokes on sports bikes. They were having fun... I tagged along for a while and was stunned at just how "capable" this bike is. After a while I decided to pass them and have some fun of my own as I knew the roads well. Not sure where they went but they never came back past me  :lala:

All in all the Africa Twin is giving me niggles but nothing that will not be resolved in time. More importantly, I have no regrets in buying this bike at all, its so much fun!

Name me one 'bike that doesn't have screen issues....

Thought not.

On the P*ston Heads thread just about every person has the buffeting issue, some enterprising Geeeerman chap (Fritz or Adolf) from an AT forum has made an adjustable slidy bracket thing that allows you to fine tune which ever screen you have.

Enjoy Nelson.

I've just managed to fire up the Nail....

It stinks, I'm looking how to adjust the idle fueling on the Power Commander without mucking up the custom map. This could be more expense, I tried it with out the PC fitted and we had loud bangs and flames out of the exhaust. No bollocking, Mrs Power has gone out for afternoon tea. :)

I'll finish sticking the bodywork back on and go for a blast, depending on the outcome and the weather I should be able to manage Squires tomorrow. If it doesn't work and you lot are still going I'll come in the Dreadnought and bring Bucket.
To be happy, I don't need private helicopters,a Florida house or a yacht. I'm fine with my motorcycle,a trip to a forest in Bavaria and some lunch money.

I suspect it's riders rather than bikes that have screen issues!
Would any self-respecting manufacturer put a bike on the market that gave its test riders the buffeting, noise etc issues that we all complain about? Surely not! ( Oh yes, Suzuki for one - I forgot  :smirk:)

My Africa Twin came with the slightly taller (Touring) screen. I have zero buffeting.

The only thing I have done (and not because of buffeting) is to add Mirror Extenders.

My mate bought the AT with the taller touring screen and has finally had enough of the buffeting.
He's just fitted one of those mini defectors that clamps on to the top of the screen, and claims it has made it better. He didn't say it cured it however...

TLPower is this the screen

I've sent off to him asking for a price. Currently out of stock but he has a batch of 200 at the powder coaters. I'm now on his waiting list.
They cost 79 Euro plus a further 13 euro delivery for anyone interested.

Andy - What mirror extenders did you use please? Did you go up and out or just up?
SW Motech offering seems to come in at £55
R&G do straight up for a little over £11  (add another fiver for delivery!) http://www.rg-racing.com/browsebike/Honda/CRF1000L_-_Africa_Twin/2017/MR0001BK/

I think I may have a go at the fork shield deflector myself.... then buy one when that fails

Bloody hell another one.
It is Buffeting ......... not Buffering.
Look it up in a dictionary.

This doesn't last forever, so do it while you can.

Pay attention chaps!  lol

On the video, starts at 1.06 and continues.....

Anyhoo, having suffered the buffeting ( :bow-blue: Mr Brockett Sir) on both test rides, I'd ordered the Givi tall touring screen before I picked my AT up, and fitted it the first weekend.

Problem solved.  :thumb:

Until I feel the need to spend a few more sheckles customising of course.....hmm, mirror extenders you say!

Sorry Brockett, I didn't watch the video.

Until now.

I'm suprised you could understand the "gentleman", I switched on the subtitles function. I've only picked up a couple of phrases from the dark place, he didn't mention Greggs Steeeeeak Baaaaake or canny like so I was forced to read at the same time as watching the moving pictures.  :icon_exclaim:
