H.Gericke 10/40 oil
« on: October 11, 2012, 18:10:57 »
About to give my V-Strom an oil & filter change, I rang my local branch of Hein Gericke (Glasgow) today, they have a 30% deal on their 10/40 semi-synthetic engine oil, 4 litres, it's now £17.49, not bad actually. going to pop there maybe tomorrow and get me some.....

Thought I'd share my findings.......

Use only fully-synthetic oil! The clutch will thank you (and your gear changes will be better for it too)

Posted before I read the other thread, and I stand by the recommendation of full-synth ;)

Best thing I have found (can't believe I become drawn into this...) is to do a 2k oil change.   Buy the cheapest 10/40 semi or fully crap you can and change it more often.

A disgrace to biking...

I am probably not alone here and think that semi synthetic is one for something like a V strom.  Its into a very high stressed engine after all.  Far better to use semi and change more often.
As for the clutch tanking you, that depends on which oil you use, if you use an oil with friction modifiers then the clutch will not thank you at all.
One of my rides is a CRF 250 X, a very highly stressed four stroke competition machine.  Honda recommend fully synth for he engine and semi for the gearbox because of its wet clutch.
Stick to semi, your wallet will thank you for it.

I'd say "Touché" but I just paid £28 for 5 litres of Castrol Power 1 Racing (fully-synth) as opposed to the £35 I was forced to spend on Castrol Magnatech (Semi-synth) oil for my Mrs. car. Clearly fully-synth isn't always more expensive than semi!

Can you tell us where you bought that? I'd definitely use that if can get it for such a good price :thumb: It's almost the same as Halfrauds semi synth on price then.

I think I would get that Power 1 stuff, too, laKraven, good find.
No matter what I put in the bike, I always revert to what ma daddy told me - change it almost as often as I can afford to!

eBay! And it's legitimate too... factory sealed and everything!

Just do a search (since the one I bought is now obviously sold) and filter for "Buy it Now" only. There's tons of sellers out there with different prices, but if you're willing to wait a week or two, you can get it cheaper with lower delivery cost etc.

In my case, I paid an extra £5 for expedited delivery (wanted it here in time for picking up my bike), otherwise delivery would've been free (3-5 working day delivery)
