Riding on a cold early morning in France and smelling fresh bread from the bakeries and wood smoke from the woodburners in peoples houses as I go through the villages.

Do they have a french version of the Hovis tune for added feeling? :)

Well.

For some time now I have been running the mower on Castrol R30 engine oil. The grass has never been so short. (the mower engine seems to run brilliantly too)

You should try it..   :shy:  :shy:

Oh yes, having a static caravan in the south east (nr st tropez) I can fully understand your feeling.
France is fantastic!

Castrol R30 engine oil.
That's the smell that used to be so common in the 60's, Gold Stars, Vipers, Venoms,Bonnevilles, Arials, Matchless, Royal Enfields, Douglas, Vincents, Fanny Barnets and a whole host of Villiers machines, that's what it is, it's the whole bike thing, loved 'em since as long as I can remember.
Bikes are all of their time, I mean, the Brough Superior was the Bees Knees at one time, imagine that ! Now we've got fuel injection, abs ,disc brakes that those bike makers of old could never have imagined but we loved each one we owned ( Mostly :fix: )
So I'd go with the smell of Castrol R, ah, memory lane.
Keep it between the ditches...

looking at the road crap and mud on the bike, thinking about washing it off...
then remembering it cost money to put if there and there it stays, also shows I use my bike, not sit and clean it!

sort of a satisfied pleasure if you get what I mean.

but the opening the garage door in the morning and getting that smell of oil and bikes does make me want to take the long way to work.  :shy:  guess that's why I'm always late.

:confusion-waiting:  I just knew there'd be one who couldn't resist! lol :thumb:

I still like it when I'm playing music through the old autocom, and it synchronises with the riding somehow, sweeping round a bend in time with the chords or beat, even coming to a stop at a junction: sometimes I wonder if I'm unconsciously planning my riding with the songs!

I stopped listening to music while riding after finding myself lying sprawled next to my bike in the middle of a roundabout with Bob Marley singing "don't worry 'bout a thing" in my helmet. It was just too weird.

I am on a trip of 100 miles or more and alone inside my crash helmet. The road and all it's thrills and hazards are always at the forefront of my thoughts. And yet somewhere in the background lifes problems arise and resoloutions are considered and discarded as if I am in a deep sleep when the brain sorts and files my thoughts. At the end of a ride my mind feels refreshed like waking up after a good sleep.
This doesn't last forever, so do it while you can.

Mine is when you leave very early in the morning (say 3 or 4 am) as you have alot of mileage to cover in a day, and the feeling and smell of that wonderful cold, fresh morning air as you ride along on quiet roads!!

Looking over the hedges into the fields and seeing the beauty of the landscape that car drivers are completely oblivious to.
Now on a Super Tenere having put 64k miles on a 2011 DL650

So we have Juvecu who likes smelling Manure and Gassoon who likes licking motorcycle seats . I think you should both join a fetish forum to share your kinky thoughts  lol

Locksmith - I've always been told you have to be aware of the quiet ones, so it isn't Juv and Gassoon we need to worry about, it's all the others.

Yes that's a thought .

I've seen Gassoon's Wee and he has OCD with his bike cleaning . I thought he'd had his downpipes chromed but I think he polishes them on a daily basis , I  think there's a pic on here somewhere , I'll try find it .

For me it's probably the sound of the pump pressurising and the flick of dials when you turn on the ignition. Tells me it's ready to burst into life and take me for a spin. In the past, when I still had my CB100, I really liked kicking it over to start it.
If at first you don't succeed, try a bigger hammer.
