Aux fusebox wiring diagram..
« on: August 28, 2011, 21:10:43 »
Hello all, now my Sat Nav bracket is complete and installed I have added an auxiliary fusebox to power accessories, fed from a relay to switch the load, and the relay coil feed picked up from the tail light.

Not sure if this will work, but here goes:

Pictures of it all will follow - I would've taken some today but the camera's batteries flat and the charger's in the caravan. How often have you heard that excuse?

Just one of these, but I had to make up the feed side by soldering a link through it. If you can get one that has one side all linked together that'll be better...as promised I have taken some pics to illustrate what how when and why..
Firstly I had to soler off all of one side of each fuse to make a busbar. Took all the tails off to a chocolate block connector. Yellow wire from the switched side of the relay goes to this connector.

Mounted the relay above other relays, left the inline fuse floating then fitted the fusebox in the 'luggage area' and mounted them both with M4 screws and wingnuts. I had these in the shed from when Focus DIY closed up.

Picked up the coil feed to the relay from the grey wire to one of the tail lights. This means that if the ignition is on the relay is energised.

Using a bit of twin sheathed flex I made up a flying lead and onto one end I soldered a cigar lighter socket. This I cable-tied into an out-of-the-way corner of the fairing behind the RH headlight.

I fed this flex through under the tank keeping it clear of hot engine parts, cable ties are used to restrain it where possible.

Connected the red wire to one of the fuseways and fitted a 7.5A fuse.
Connected the -ve and the coil negative from the relay to the battery -ve post.

The feed to the relay switch side went via a 15A in-line fuse to the battery +ve post.

Cable-tied to tidy up and Hello-pasty-presto. Snip, snip, Bob's your Auntie.

Sorry Locksmith, this is the fusebox I used, I paid about £4.25 in my local motorist shop..

However, as can be seen in the text I did have to do some work on it to make it suitable...

That is one dandy link.  I'll be doing something similar to this in the next month or so.   I'm looking to copy the easter beaver pc8 with a relay arrangement:  http://easternbeaver.com/Main/Products/Fuseboxes/PC-8/body_pc-8.html#30akit

Nice tidy install, right up to seeing the scotch lock.  Replace it with something decent pronto.  They corrode internally and will give you lots of problems later.

Keith

I did drown it in Aqualube (like WD40 but doesn't affect plastics so hopefully it'll be OK. Point taken though...

Nice work in the installation and the accompanying photos.

However, would you people PLEASE stop showing these projects on spotlessly clean bikes, you're all giving me a complex.  :shy:

Here you go, seat blocks making impressions in the dust, an epoxied on washer preventing a crack over a plastic rivet from growing, gaffers tape closing the wear holes in a tool bag and wiring that looks like a mating ball of snakes.

Holy shit!

Is that a 5 pin relay that cuts the heated kit with the brake light? One of those circuit changers rather than just a straight on/off relay?

Right. 85 goes to a white/black brake light hot wire on the bike. 86 goes to earth (the top bus on the battery in the picture). 30 goes to the power bus (the lower one on the battery). 87a delivers power from 30 to the heat controller. Hold a brake on while stopped and power is cut to the heated gear to keep from getting too hot as the wind chill is gone. If heat is still desired, release the brake. If I ever install an auxiliary brake light, it can be powered from 87.  There is a four pin relay that powers the fuse block in the rear that is triggered by the orange/green wire to the rear brake light switch when the ignition is turned on.
