A new V strom owner. Soon
« on: July 28, 2025, 19:46:56 »
Hi everyone, I could soon be parting with my trusty F650 GS single after 8 years many happy camping trips, having reached 70,000 miles. I looked at several possible alternatives, these Stroms seem to tick all the right boxes. I enjoyed the simplicity, ruggedness and ease of maintenance,(valve clearances excluded), on the GS and I will be looking for similar qualities, in addition, maybe a little more comfort for longer distances as I find the single hard work at anything over 50 MPH. The higher seat may be an issue, but there may be ways around that. I have been looking at maybe a gen 2 example and I came across one at a campsite that I really liked the look of. Complete with all the luggage and bars. Any recommendations as to what to look for will be welcomed.

I have a Gen 2 650 that I have covered over 25,000 miles on since 2021, and I will not be parting with it any time soon.

There are lower seat options and also lower suspension links, so I'm sure you can tune the height to suit your needs.

Good luck with your search, there are some real bargains out there at the moment.

Hello and  :welcome2:. I have had a BMW F650GS and it was a brilliant bike except for the motorways, you won't have a problem on the V-Strom as they will cruise all day at motorway speeds. White is the fastest.  :thumb:

Extras like crash bars, panniers, centre stand etc are very expensive so best be patient and look for one with everything fitted.
