It reminds me of an event my son and me attended a few years back. It was a 3 hour hare and hound event that was to be held on a Sunday on a course that we had both raced before. On the Saturday there was a "fun" hill climb. As we were there we thought what the hell, why not. We duly turned up, me on my KTM250exc and my son on his KTM200exc, both of them 2 strokes. My son was a far better rider than me and as we looked at the sodden hill and the competition we convinced ourselves that as all the other entrants were aboard "gutless 250 thumpers" it was a given that us on our crazy smokers would easily take the honours. The only question would be who would be first?
The riders attacked the hill in pairs with my son in the first heat. As they were counted down he into got his best MX stance ready for a lightning start. As the flag dropped he dropped the clutch and in a flurry of mud, smoke and revs he promptly dug a hole! Meanwhile the "gutless 250 thumper" chugged away and made it all the way to the top. I did no better and heat after heat we failed to make it up. Eventually we were paired together and while we got close to the top we didn't make it. Great fun being humbled

As for taking my V-Strom off-road - NO CHANCE. Horses for courses

A most superb find Andy. I loved the fact that the instructor bloke reckons you're not quite knackered enough, so demands press-ups to improve your performance.

Some intresting lever angles as well that will have made the things far easier to control.

Impressive stamina levels.
To be happy, I don't need private helicopters,a Florida house or a yacht. I'm fine with my motorcycle,a trip to a forest in Bavaria and some lunch money.

I rode in Scottish enduros for nearly 10 years and while I was no star, I loved it. There are very few things in my life that come close to the sense of achievement I got after finishing a gruelling forest enduro. Age, niggling injuries and the constant struggle to maintain a high level of fitness meant I gave it up a few years ago but it was great while it lasted.
