Thanks for asking barnabas, I am now able to sit at the pc for short periods so I did get logged in yesterday as well.
For background, I was going up a three-way adjustable ladder into my parents' attic when the ladder snapped and I dropped vertically about 1 metre onto my heels, in the process crushing my L1 vertebra. Seven days of excellent care in the John Radcliffe Trauma Unit in Oxford and I was discharged. I have to wear a spinal brace at all times when I'm not laid down for a minimum of 6 weeks, it's 3 weeks tomorrow since it was fitted. I feel like I'm on the mend, just a spot of backache which paracetamol deals with. Although I may yet need an op, riding days do seem like they will be possible eventually. One of my colleague is coming round this week to take my Wee out and get it thoroughly warmed up.
Moral of the story: Don't take these ladders for granted and make sure it can carry your weight!

Take care all, do a mile for me when you're out and about!

Mike

Hi Piglumps, sorry to hear about your accident. Sounds painful.

When I read Barnabas' post I thought you had lobbed the bike through a hedge or something.

Incidentally, if this ladder collapsed during 'normal use' would you perhaps have a claim against the manufacturer ?

I've always thought my loft ladder was a bit dodgy, you've just prompted me to get it replaced.

Ouch!!!
Can you remember what words exactly you used as you hit the deck?

I'm always very wary of these flimsy little ladders - especially as I'm fairly robustly built myself.

Glad to hear you are on the mend - you'll be back in the saddle in no time.
Cheers mate.
