The sand racing on Mablethorpe beach last year was definitely one of my highlights for 2025. :lala:

V-Strom specific discussion / Re: A few Mods and sods on my 800RE
« Last post by Yoyo on Today at 11:34:23 »
A well timed thread this one, I'm downgrading from a GSA to an 800RE, the other half has had one for 18 months, the engine is a peach, I test rode a 1050DE but didn't gel with it like I hoped I would, preferred the 800.

I've got until 1st March to get my custom bits in order.  The Heed crash bars and bash plate have arrived, I'm going to go with Shad SH23 panniers for day to day stuff and then something bigger for when we go on tour. I ordered a centre stand and tall seat with the bike, the Veridian Cruise Control is on it's way, it looks like a pig to fit but it took about 90 mins in all, would have been quicker if I'd removed her crash bars.

I need to look at a screen (or perhaps a spoiler), mirror extenders, I think yellow Barkbusters will set it off, R&G Radiator guard, Ultimate Addons heated grips,  was thinking of Oxford Spots and 12v switch box (will probably get the switchbox from Ali).  I've seen on Facebook someone has fitted a rear mudguard similar to a GS one, I'm trying to find it on AliExpress.

Have you done anything with footpegs?  I find the stock ones quite small, I picked up some used SW-Motek ION ones for the other bike but they are tilted forward and I'm not keen, the other half likes them though.

As Nigel says, great to have all the mods in one place, well done!  :)

That's what I tell her. They don't need a name, they'll die before they get used to it. ☺️
Eric is her favourite name .......  they're all Eric!

Mick, is that like not naming a calf or piglet at birth incase you inevitably get round to eating it one day when fully fattened grown.......?

What would you use for wild boar? Plenty of them around here.

Cheers Doc/Upt.
Doc, yeah , the lad in the gun shop mentioned those two & a couple more, but he did say the Air Arms are probably best value for money. I bought my shotgun from there & I found them very good & honest. They answered my questions, gave advice & let me decide
Upt, the rats aren't a big problem, just one or two showing now & again. I've caught a few in a humane trap & took them a ride 5 miles up the road  chucked them out in a 'truckers layby', where there's plenty of food!  😁
If I could get Deb to stop feeding the  birds, I'm sure I wouldn't have the problem.
She gives the rats (& mice) names & won't let me poison them, not that I like doing that anyway.

No rush, so anyone else who shoots an air rifle, please jump in. 👍

I agree with Mister Davey's comment above. Mark communicates very quickly in a logical, understandable way. He is the best and I would trust him with my bank account (all £2.50 of it  :). If only all companys were the equal  :bow-blue:

I see there’s an article about a chap with a TL1000 beast at Mablethorpe Sandracing this season, bet that’s ’fun’ 🤪
There’s often some wierd and wonderful sights among the Road Bike Class entries, I like the CBR600 & the MZ (see pics).
R-kids was a multi-champion as a passenger in the sidecars on a Norton outfit in the mid-late 70’s. I remember he’d race against Imp powered chairs and there was always a rumour of a bloke bringing a TZ750 chair but I never saw it.

Doncaster Carncil were out last week repairing pavements near us. The solution to roots growing through is to bash the offending root with a shovel and than dump some asphalt straight on top and stamp for a couple of times.

It's also imperative to totally ignore the potholes less than 18" away on the actual road.

Plenty of those round near me, they come out and pack cold tar in the hole, don't even bother cleaning the hole or sweeping all the loose tarmac up, 6 months later the hole is back. Useless they are, cheapest hole fixers they can find.
