Title: ContiTrail Attack - DL1000 - oscillation in handlebar
Post by: mattee76 on October 04, 2010, 13:34:20
Hi,

I had a pair of ContiTrail Attacks put onto the bike last week, I notice that the bike now has a moderate ossilating effect in the handle bars below 30mph, they also feel pretty spongy when riding. I previously had the RoadAttack and notice no issues. Have tried with recommended PSI, +2,+4 PSI front rear, no difference.

What are other people experiences with these tyres? Any ideas how to resolve the issue?

Thanks
Matthew

This oscillating effect is called shimmy.
And the CTA is known for this shimmy effect. About 95% of the CTA tyres have shimmy. Also the Road Attack (CRA).
The good news are, shimmy is not dangerous, only  :-x

Hmm, interesting, how can they sell these tyres if they have this effect?

Oh well, as long as it is not dangerous, I can handle the shimmy.

It depends a little on the production plant/country. France, Corea or anywhere else. Corean are worst. They know about this effect but they won't do anything against it. I avoid to buy Conti...

Have them on my 650 & never had a problem. Excellent tyres :thumb:
Bumhead has them on his 1000 & rates them very highly as well.
  Tyres are very personal items - what one person loves, someone else hates!!!

Couldn't agree more! Got them on my Wee and not looked back since (except when pulling out and doing lifesavers!)

Oh god, on my bike they are absolutely terrible. I would have hoped they would become more bedded in during he first 100miles, but they have'nt.

I am going to take the bike back and see what the deal is.

Out of couriousity, what PSI do you run them on?

Had them fitted on my Vee a few weeks back, no problems, solo or two up at whole range of speeds & conditions.  Make sure they're balanced up properly and correctly seated on the rims.

Hi,

Would you blokes mind telling me what manufacturing batch the front tyre is please.

Mine is stamped 1410 (14th week 2010).

I am getting the tyre store to fit a new front tyre from a different batch, "maybe" that will fix the issue.

Thanks
Matthew

I am going to take them off and get them to fit some Bridgestone BW501/502.

Will get the CTA's sent back to Conti and they can check to see if there are any issues.

Unless anyone wants to buy some barely used CTA's.
