So, I'm rebuilding the front end of my 1050, and there's no specific locating point for the headlight, Ideal opportunity to have it high so it actually lights the road, but, not keen on oncoming traffic veering into my path because I've blinded them.
Anyone know the height it should shine onto the garage door?
I can get about two metres back from the door.

Is it a one piece housing but with separate lenses and just one internal height/angle adjuster ( there may be another for left to right ) ?
If so setting the center of the high beam spread pattern as it shows on the door at the same height as the center of the high beam lense from the floor ( if level ish ) , with you sitting on it , should give a good start point to later adjust the dip drop with the adjuster.

"How To Adjust Your Motorcycle Headlight:
- Step one: Place your motorcycle 25 feet away from a wall or garage door on flat ground. Have someone sit on your bike or chock your wheel and measure from the center of the headlight to the ground with the bike level.
- Step two: With your bike level, take a measurement from the center of your headlight to the ground. Now go over to the garage door and mark one line at the same height above ground, and another 2 inches lower. Use a carpenter's level to draw a horizontal reference line.
- Step three: With the measurement you just took, mark it on the wall or garage door, making another mark 2 inches below that. Switch on the headlights and mount the motorcycle. The low beam's upper cutoff point should rest right on the lower line. Because most bikes have combined high- and low-beam reflectors, setting the height (and checking to see that the beam is centered along the bike's long axis) is about all there is to it. But if you have separate high beams, make the center of the high beam land on the upper line."

MD I think you're wasting your time trying to set it accurately at that distance. Remember it's an MOT fail if it's wrong.
Set it about right then put it on a tester. If that means leaving some bits off to facilitate easy adjustment like on the 650 this is the time to do it.

Many, many thanks for the replies gentlemen.
I'm working at the moment, I'll look at them in depth later on.
It's an LED headlight, it pivots on bolts in grommets either side, and there is a sliding bolt underneath which locks it into place. This is easily accessible once the cover under the beak is (easily) removed.

That sounds a lot easier than the late 650's.

I popped into my local independent "old school" proper mechanic, they're going to let me put it on their MOT bay to get it adjusted. Worth the small donation.....
