Title: Pending Speeding Ticket
Post by: The Doctor 46 on October 12, 2025, 19:40:54
I received a letter from the police on Friday asking me was I the rider of the bike at the time and place mentioned in the letter. I had to admit, I was. There is one of those single yellow poles on a wide traffic light junction, it's new and this was the first time I had seen it.

There was a little traffic but my route ahead was clear so I rode through not realising that the camera was not only a "Jumping a red light camera but a speed camera too. So, I didn't check my speed and kept my concentration on the traffic on the junction.

I was 5 miles over the 30 mph speed limit. At present I have a clean licence and I'm hoping to be invited to pay a fine and attend a tea and biscuit session where we will discus  speeding and killing people, or not. I did one many many years ago and think it should be an add on to the driving test.

What do you think, apart from I'm a plonker?   :thumb:

Oops!!!
Fingers crossed for the speed awareness course (or whatever it's called now). I think you can do them online these days.

Am sure you don't usually speed, but be mindful for the next four years as you'll end up with these points too if you're caught again.

If you're really lucky you'll be like my two doors down neighbour Ian. He got caught speeding @ 21mph over the limit (exiting a 30 mph into a 60 mph zone by about 20yards, crafty...) and received the NIP (Notice of Intended Proscecution), had to provide his details etc. He was then informed he was not eligible for speed awareness and would be going to the local Magistrates Court and had to provide details of his income as it was now means tested ! He was crapping himself, thinking it was going to cost a few pounds and probably 6 points. Out of the blue he received a short letter from Northumbria Police that they had made a clerical error and had the location details recorded incorrectly and he could therefore not be prosecuted !!! And breathe out...

I had similar to that a few years ago, I mentioned it on this forum. I was sent a speeding fine from Plymouth. Some time later I received my money back (cheque) and I never had points put on my licence. No explanation or anything?   :thumb:

Update on speeding ticket pending. I've been kindly invited to do a speed education course online and a fine but no points. I'm a happy man and I'll go online and complete the course tomorrow if it's raining but, if it's dry I'll go out for some practical training on my bike as I have 28 days to complete the course.  :thumb:
