Had to do a few jobs on the vstrom before we went on our trip a few weeks ago, also need to do a few more with mots looming on both bikes.
While I was working on the 650 found a few of my tools are past their best. Found my 8mm socket was buggered and my impact driver not working properly.
When I sat and thought about it I realised both items were from when I got my first bike in 1977 so I've probably had my monies worth.
The first tools I bought at the time were said impact driver, a Draper socket set (from Kwiksave haha) and a set of combination spanners. They've all had a lot of use (and abuse). The spanners are still in excellent nick, the sockets set also apart from the 8mm socket and I had to replace the ratchet driver about 12 months ago.
I didn't realise at the time I chose such good quality tools but it's paid off.
So I'm off tomorrow to Halfords to buy a few new items.

I still have a pair of Elliot brand insulated pliers from my first ever apprentice toolkit. They are still in great condition and are in regular use at 43 years old...

The oldest tools I have were my dads so some of those have to be 60+ years old, don't use them very often but the small Stilsons still work great when I need to get brutal with summat.

I think it's strange that us men have a love of tools that some women have for handbags. A company I worked for a long time ago moved to bigger premisses leaving some things behind. I had a look and found a load of half inch sockets, rachet spanners and extensions in as new condition so I thew them in a bag and took them to the boss. He said "Keep them". I still have them many years later, they have been well used but still in perfect condition.
I will be cremated but if I was to be buried, I would have my socket set put in my box. :fix: :thumb:

Still got my first ball pain hammer from ...... thinking ..... 1977.
Is that 48 years, I hope not, can't be?
God I'm old.

I still use my 'Heyco' (made in Germany) ring spanner set that I got off 'Pink Shield Stamps' in 1972. Somewhere, I also have a Puch generator rotor extractor. Fitted my M125 and those 50 cc Puch Maxi mopeds.
