Title: I'd like to reccomend some inexpensive ear plugs
Post by: MisterDavey on May 21, 2025, 20:20:22
I can't afford expensive custom moulded ear buds, and I don't fancy the faff of plugging such things in to my Cardo every time I put my helmet on etc.

So through t'internet search I bought some simple ear plugs with a filter inserted. I can't stress enough what a vast difference they have made to my riding. I was a little frustrated at first, because they weren't comfortable, and they weren't doing a good job. I then read the instructions and realised that they didn't fit properly because I was using the wrong size. They come with three sizes, I moved the filter into the middle size and not only do they fit so comfortably, but they are also so very effective. I can hear so little wind noise, what a joy!! I can hear my music without the volume high, and I can still hear the bike nicely without flinching at high rev's.

At only £15, I'm really pleased with them.

They're these things https://www.connevans.co.uk/product/33732384/3P1083084/Phonak-Serenity-Choice-Motorsport-SNR-24-Reusable-Earplugs-KI25 (https://www.connevans.co.uk/product/33732384/3P1083084/Phonak-Serenity-Choice-Motorsport-SNR-24-Reusable-Earplugs-KI25)

very similar to the ones I use. I find them far better than the foam ones as they block just about everything, for me anyway, but I am a little deaf to start with.  :)
The Alpine ones allow me to hear OK through the comms.
They come in 3 ratings, tour, the ones I use, race & pro.

For the money, those Connevans worked pretty well for me. Due to having a huuuge hole in my right eardrum I splurged on some Ultimate Ear jobs. Yes, I know, completely different price bracket. But better (for my lugs) than anything I've ever tried. Amazing. Worth it. Again, purely personal.

Did you go for the Ultimate Ear with sound drivers built in Rusty ?

Getting my ears hoovered out next week, looking to get the impressions done not long after.

No, just the solid silicone jobs. The helmet has speakers and I can hear the satnav and music.
