Title: 650 front tyre wear.
Post by: nigel s on May 07, 2024, 05:42:01
Morning.

I have Michelin Road 6s on the 650,the front has started to white line very slightly, and getting near the wear marker so will order another.
All as expected as the tyre wears, no problems there, but checking my records that tyre went on at 7500 miles so has done 18,500 miles.
Is this normal for a 650 ?
Seems a lot to me .I am used to 5,6000 on my previous   (admittedly)  litre bikes.
I am getting 9,000 ish out of the rear so two fronts to a rear?
I could have missed a receipt, but don't think so

Ta.

+1 on the two rear tyres to a front tyre.
I have to concede that I missed the bus, when it came to learning of how to ride with good tyre mileage and good fuel consumption in mind.

Cheers gents,
I'm not one to worry about mileage, it was just a bit odd.
My fazer 1000 weighing the same as my 650 would do a front in 5,6000, double  the bhp granted, but not the driven wheel
Not complaining  mind.

All the tyres I've had on my 650 have worn out, front & rear, at the same time, or at least close enough to change both at the same time.
OEM .... 2 x Anakee 3's .... BT023 & Battlax A41. Now on Conti Trail Attack so lets see how these do.

I am 2 up for 95% of my riding whether makes any difference or not?

Interesting Mick,
Loading is a factor it seems,I seem to remember a pic of your bike with full panniers and top box plus large bags on the front.
I have a medium tail pack and a smallish tool box plus small bags on the front, not a lot.And have only had a pillion twice since I got the bike.
Also I change my tyres at the first hint of whitelining or reluctance to turn,I could probably get another 1000/1500 out of a rear . The extra load on yours may mask this effect ,not sure.

My front Road 6 has done nearly 14,000 but will be changed soon.

HUH, again interesting.
Ta for that, you are mostly two up fully loaded too I believe,my front COULD go another 1000/1500 MAYBE,but after having a "moment " crossing that ford yesterday I decided it was time :icon_wink:
The plot thickens :thumb:

I had road 6 front and rear. When the rear wore out I had a Angel GT (I think it is a GT) fitted and was going to change the front to match. That was a few miles ago and the ware front and rear is just about equal now and not quite ready to change. I don't waste 1 mm of rubber, it costs too much and it's greener to ware to the limit.  :thumb:
