Took my Glee in for an MoT today... Asked the mechanic if I could also book the bike in to have braided hoses fitted.. His response was no, as specialist equipment is required due to my bike having a ABS modulator... He did recommend somebody else... but I just wondered what experiences others have had in getting new hoses fitted... (in my Haynes manual it doesn't mention any special tools needed)...

I don't have ABS on my bike so my comment is probably pointless... but I fitted HEL braided brake lines with no issue. I think from what I have read there is fun to be had with the ABS system, but I doubt it stops you fitting new hoses. I would have a look through the search tab, others will have done this before and probably posted photos for you to follow :).

Sounds like he didn't want to do the job, Don't blame him , it's a PITA ..!
The labour cost would be quite expensive also .

I changed mine myself and it wasn't too difficult or painful.
I bought HEL's kit - front and rear one December as they tend to do 50% off then. Straight forward to fit, the only bit I didn't install was a tiny bit from the ABS unit to the rear master cyclinder as the nut from the ABS line wouldn't undo & I didn't want to damage it.
I never really have issues bleeding my brakes - I just take my time and then cable tie it overnight. Even if you change the brake lines yourself, most mechanics should be able to bleed them for you...
If you really want to flush out the ABS unit, some folks advise triggering the ABS while driving then changing the fluid again. I never bother as I trigger the ABS every now and again on purpose so I guess the fluid moves and gets changed with regular fluid changes.
