Title: Clutch Mod - New customer
Post by: FinishedFall on September 06, 2020, 14:03:08
Good Afternoon everyone,

A quick and simple question, is John still doing this clutch mod? Emailed a few times and tried calling, but no response.

If he is not doing these anymore, does anyone know of a similar service? I'm trying to avoid spending 300 pounds on a new clutch basket from Suzuki. As it stands right now my SV 1000 has only just started with the clutch issues at 16k miles but its only going to get worse as we all know.

any help or information would be greatly appreciated, hope you are all well given the current state of affairs in the county.

all the best

Sharealike (John) still does this, I've my basket booked in for mid January. Email or phone him from his website, not here.
Basket looks like new when you have it in your hand, I can't see anything wrong with mine but I'm looking forward to getting it done and see if I can get that low down smoothness back.

I'll be sure to let everyone know. Booked in mid January but be March before I get to ride it again.
Mine was fine up to 20k miles then I noticed more vibration about 2500rpm till 3200rpm, mild at first but just got worse as the mileage rose. Hopefully this will help. Easy enought to take off, just the big nut on the clutch basket was difficult, thankfully I had an impact gun, that cheapo Lidi's one has paid off big time, 30 quid well spent.
And now I have the clutch basket holding tool also, I'll lend it out if anyone needs it after I'm finished with it sometime in February.

Got it fitted this afternoon. Sounds much quieter at tick over, (not that this ever bothered me as I'm deaf even without ear plugs and a helmet!) and the clutch drag when cold is now gone. But I couldn't get a run out as the bike was missing bad and speeding up on it's own just ticking over, I'll get some new petrol and try that, I've done nothing else this winter but the basket. :angry-banghead:

Got my fixed clutch basket back from John last week, managed to refit it a couple of days ago and the difference is amazing. My bike (2008, 45000 miles) really suffered from the 'chudder', the whole bike shook horribly, now it is smooth through the whole rev range, so definitely worth doing. The whole fix from sending to getting back was a couple of weeks. Highly recommended.

Finally got a good 100 mile run on the bike with John's clutch modification. A lot better, can drop to 2500rpm now it top gear and pull away and in the lower gears its smooth from 2000rpm, before anything below 3000 was major shake time. Gear change is much smoother also and no lurch when releasing the clutch lever between chances. Also quiet now  at tickover too.
So all in all I'm very pleased with it. So if your Veek is starting to feel a bit baggy at low revs like mine was this is a good mod. I was going to sell ot last year but I'll be happy to ride it a few more years now. Cheers John.

Had my first two up ride today on the bike from having the clutch basket done back in February and it's even better two up.  When I'm two up I'm always in the 2500-4500rpm range and pulling a few more Kg's to boot ( I'll not say how many!)
The vibration was always more noticeable with two but it's much smoother  now, smoother than solo.
