hi all, anyone local to notts/derbyshire have a code reader and or cables I can borrow please

Look up the info on dealer mode and where the dealer mode connector is located on your ride, in the service manual. If you find that the manual does not give enough info, then do a search of this site. However if you want to go the route of a special dealer mode cable, then have a look at https://www.v-strom.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=18510.0

thanks , but they seem exspensive , want to sort fi light and on dash , need to go past to set clock and temp and things. will the 2 wires to a switch clear this or should I ge cable from e-bay to connect to my obd2 reader ?

In short , no .

If your FI light is on then there's a problem that needs solving.

Jump the two wires on the dealer plug to reveal the code, look it up and then fix the problem , then the light will go out.

Only a dealer can clear stored codes in the ECU

What dealer mode code are you receiving on the display once you have jumpered the two leads on the dealer mode connector?
