Hi, Q here. (62 years of age!) On my third vstrom now! I will have my previous DL650 for sale by the end of the week.
It's actually a really nice example. The issue was that I got rammed from behind whilst at the lights waiting to cross Vauxhall bridge
last month. (I have the incident on tape thanks to another rider with a helmet cam)
Unfortunately the insurance company decided it write my DL off because of the 'cosmetic' damage which is actually very hard to see!
Before they said I could buy the bike I replaced it and now I have two.
Keep an eye out later this week if you are looking for a nice DL!
Thanks

Moved from Introductions.
-
With the recent spate of 'for sale' introductions, have you considered investigating a tie-in with Gumtree to sponsor that section?
-
:welcome:
-
Good point Mr.Nick - that or new members are banned from advertising for 6 months or heaven forbid they pay a fee
(This site is about helping each other with bikes (and banter))
-
Never mind about rules; let's see the video footage of the shunt
-
There may be someone on here who is looking to buy a written off bike from a stranger & this will make their day, but this type of post just feels like some random bloke walks into your pub & tries flogging you some gear without even buying a drink.
However, it's FR's pub & if he's okay with it, then I'll just go back to my quiet game of darts...
-
It’s very close to me so if anyone needs an opinion as to if it’s worth travelling to view happy to do so. Would be good to see a picture or two and the footage of the incident. Good luck with sale Q and does it have secret guns and stuff fitted ?
-
I'm not a fan of people dropping in just to flog stuff and not contribute to the forum. However, there is a chance that what they are selling will benefit a member here.
-
Fair comment FR.
Mr. NICK - we playing 501 OR 301 lol
-
Or is it 101 like Bullseye? Today you've got a slightly damaged vstrom, but look at what you could've won...!
-
....a storm damaged speed boat?
-
.
-
oh! aye .... you can't beat a bit of Bully
-
"Keep out of the Black and into the red, You get Nothing in this Game for 2 in a bed"
This is now probably racist and sexist !! In fact Jim Bowen should be ashamed,,
-
Yep ....
These days one slip and you're in the shit ...
-
OK, so here is the newly cleaned DL650 which is for sale.
I hope you can see the photos!
This bike is in excellent condition with 33k on the clock.
Registered in the UK in 2007.
Rather than advertise at £2k and haggle I have decided to accept £1750...no offers.
I will include for free a Suzuki top box and panier set taken from my new DL. So it should fit just fine.
Please email me on qgreig@yahoo.co.uk to discuss.
Thanks
Q.

Here are the pics!

Hi, just a thought to aid your sale - it might be worth mentioning the damage category given by the insurers, I.e. Cat S or Cat N
-
Thanks for your input. There is no 'cat' associated with this bike. The insurers decided in their wisdom that to repair the cosmetic issues including paying for somebody to collect replace and deliver was simply not viable and sent me £2100 for the bike. For a fee they let me keep hold of it. I have replaced the parts that needed replacing and cleaned it up. See the pics. I am offering the bike on this forum so a genuine enthusiast can take advantage of a great bike at a reduced price. I have no doubt at all it's worth the money I am asking. If the bike turns out to be disappointing after two weeks I will buy it back for the same money with no questions. fair?
-
If the insurer has decided the bike is beyond economic repair and paid out on its value then that is a write-off in its basic terms: the insurer has written the bike off their books as an insured vehicle after settling the claim by giving you the value at the time. They weren't just being nice & buying the bike from you so they could sell it back at a discount.
Whether they then sold the bike on for someone to potentially repair the damage or not doesn't come into the written off part. By the sounds of it, this will likely have been given a Cat N as there's no apparent structural damage to repair. Cat N is the best as you don't have to send the V5 off to get the cat recorded on it, but it will still come up if the buyer does an HPI check (others are available) so you may want to sort out what you're thinking about it being an insurance write-off or not.

Some pic's of the Suzuki Top box and Panier set that's available for free to the buyer of my DL...

Hello again,
curious as to why your insurer didn't give you an insurance category (which they have to do), I checked your registration PY07LUD on the selling page on Autotrader for you, as this page shows a category if there is one assigned.
Unfortunately your bike comes up as a Cat B, which from what little I know, means the bike has suffered heavy damage and cannot go back on the road, but can be broken up for spares?
Sorry to be the bearer of such news, but as it stands you would essentially be breaking the law selling it as a roadworthy bike.
I would get back on to your insurers in the event there is a mix-up?
-
Tactfully put Dark-Strom
-
lol
I don't think that anyone on here was ever going to buy this anyway.
:eusa-doh:
-
Yea but, it has free luggage...Free! :dl_hyperhysteria:
-
To be fair I found the swing arm in amazing condition for a bike with 33k on it
-
Was about to post about the write off category but didn't spot earlier posts ..
Too much wine ... :obscene-drinkingchug:
-
Top box and Panier set...
-
Dark-strom is correct. Upon checking this bike has been categorised as B.
I wasn't aware. I am now. This decision was based on a few pics of cosmetic damage which I have corrected. Alas I'm guessing
that's the end of the story. Oh well...
-
So, a new thread? 'DL650 breaking for parts'
-
The insurer should have made it absolutely clear that the bike was damaged to the point it must be scrapped and could not be re-registered when they wrote it off. I'm not sure they could even sell you the bike back if it's cat B.
Might want to read this page before you go much further:
https://www.gov.uk/scrapped-and-written-off-vehicles/insurance-writeoffs (https://www.gov.uk/scrapped-and-written-off-vehicles/insurance-writeoffs)
-
How long have you owned the bike Q
-
Just found this thread.........its like something from all4s WALTER PRESENTS........
intriguing .......
-
Q's never been back on since the last post above: following up the 'Walter' theme and being suspicious, I wonder whether Q was well aware of the Cat B and was trying to pull a fast one on an unsuspecting member after discovering that he couldn't put it back on the road?
-
Professor Jasper Teerlinck would find the answer. :lala:
-
Is it just me or is the bike that's listed for sale a red Wee, but the luggage that's for sale is attached to a black Glee?
Seems odd?
-
In his first post he said he'd replaced the bike and now had two. Looks like the cases were transferred to the replacement bike. Almost as if he knew he couldn't take the wee on the road?
-
I suppose there wasn't any point hanging around after 'discovering' he had to sell it as parts - nobody around here that might buy bits is there???
-
Did the Cat check as wanted to give the benefit of doubt, but just felt wrong - the swing arm looked new and looking again, the 2nd picture down? shows a small deformation about 1/2 way down the lower side beam of the frame, on the rear brake lever side.
I think any bike that is hit in the back is automatically a Cat B with some insurers.
I have read elsewhere of wheel bases being 1/4" to 1/2" out from such incidents
-
The whole thing stank when he said insurance paid out as total loss yet it wasn't written off - tried the whole 'I'm 62 you know' up front to allay fears, but didn't allow for the suspicious nature of us. I wonder which forum he went to next...
-
Not Stromtr*****, just checked :)
Let's hope the lack of activity means it's being stripped and parts are being sold...
