I'm desperate to change the can on my new 2018 XT650 for something I can actually hear when riding. I know this type of thread has been talked about before because I've commented on a couple but can't for the life of me find the threads again!
My question is, can I buy a slip on can with a link pipe say from Fuel or do I have to go for the 3/4 system as most other websites suggest?
Seems daft not to be able to go down the slip on with link pipe method?
-
Most manufacturers do "slip ons" that do just that and as a rule don't need any additional tweeking of the ECU. I had a Delkvic one on mind for a while. Took about 30 minutes to fit, and improved the sound a lot.
I know some people fit a power commander thing so they can by pass the O2 sensor, which then gives the bike a deeper growl without being offensive.
-
That's what I thought but when looking on the Delkevic website they don't have an option to buy a slip-on with a link pipe for 2018 vstrom650's, only the 3/4 system.
did you buy the can and link pipe for the sv?

Unless the design of the 650cc exhaust system's been changed dramatically for the new single headlight 650s, it's still basically a one-piece design- can and plumbing -(apart from the first 15 or so inches from the front cylinder) so a link pipe and slip-on won't do the job. You'll need a whole (" three-quarter") system. Having said that, once such an aftermarket system's been fitted, you could, I think, always swap to a different end can.
The 1000cc setup is completely different, and does use a link pipe and slip-on can as standard, so changing the can is simple.
-
How many times do you need telling? You can't get a slip on exhaust for the 650.

Apologies for causing confusion didn't read the origanal post and thought it was a DL1000.

Thanks for clearing things up for me blokes, no good explanation online so you’ve been a real help.
Andy_J, I don’t think your reply was really warranted. I, like most people on this forum aren’t experts and are seaking help and advice, comments like yours don’t promote the forum that well. Bell boy

@edbailey no need to be childish calling names. I don't think you add to this form with name calling as I'm a bit too old to be called a bell boy whatever that is. :old:
ps, the only reason I stated what I did because you had also been informed on the exhaust thread. But Hello ho. :dl_ninite:

Okay gents, lets let it rest there! :topic_closed:
