Title: ProViz for night time commuting
Post by: rimscar on December 17, 2018, 14:37:11
Hi all,
Just thought I'd pass on my experience as it may help someone; take from it what you will
After doing my IAM and genning up on SOBS research, I ditched hi-viz and went for the ProViz jacket for night time riding commuting in all weathers and all year (no I`m not a reseller lol).

Subjectively I've observed a lot more "double-takes" and go/stops from drivers at junctions when light from other sources catches my jacket. However in queues of traffic oncoming vehicles seem a lot more cautious or fixated wondering wtf is coming at them a lot faster than a cyclist... lol

I certainly feel a lot more "observed", far more than fitting extra leds and incorporating "defensive yet progressive" riding.

I`m 6ft, 15 st so I bought the xxxl one that goes over my helite air jacket. Useful rain protection too. black Friday sale (bit late I know).

All the best :)

I have seen a few folk out jogging wearing this gear recently and agree, they do seem far more visible. It would be interesting to know how long they keep that level of visibility up after a few months wear though so keep us posted.

I would still assume that I was invisible.

I watched a cycling video on the best ways to be seen in low light etc. H-viz is best for low light, reflective for no light. The main issue with reflective is it needs the light to hit you before you become visible, where h-viz only needs low light to make you stand out.

My take on all of this is if they can't see us on our massive bikes with their headlights on etc, clothing is going to do little to help. (I.e. as per Hugo Magnus)
