I believe that is the new 'easy start' system. A single press on the starter button and the bike does the rest.

The clutch lever still needs to be pulled in to start, its a safety feature, the easy start is simply one push of the start button, the ecu recognises the bike is being started and turns over until it starts, even after releasing the button. cars have it also.

The clutch doesn't need to be pulled in any more (unless the bike is in gear). Here is the 'official' information from Suzuki......

"Suzuki Easy Start System
The Suzuki Easy Start System lets the rider start the motorcycle with a momentary press of the start switch without pulling in the clutch lever when the transmission is in neutral
".

My 17 definitely doesn't need the clutch to start unless it's in gear.
