Just read a post on a fishing forum I use about waterproofing bivies (read tent), umbrellas and clothing. Someone recommended this or similar....................

It's for brickwork really but works out a good bit cheaper than Nikwax if it does work on clothing!
I haven't tried it yet but do have some old fishing waterproofs that I'm going to try it on.
Has anybody tried this stuff on 'textile' motorcycle type clothing?

Mick, I think its the same stuff a mate used on his brickwork and shed...and it stinks to hell and back, like diesel. Must have a lot of volatiles...a quote from one of the reviews
It is quite pungent so make sure that you wear eye protectors,gloves and make sure you have fresh air. "
The stuff I use on my brickwork is water-based , called Thompsons waterseal :shrug:

:thumb: Thompson's was also mentioned but, as usual, but that one was pointed out as being cheaper.
As I said I've not tried it, or any other yet, nor did I read the reviews, as I didn't think they would mention waterproofing clothing!! lol
I think I spotted a tin of something like it (block paving sealer?) in my dad's garage the other day so might 'borrow' a bit.
I'll give it a careful sniff first! :shock: then try it on an old fishing jacket and see what happens. :)
Don't hold your breath, it could be a while.

I think you could try this stuff on clothing and find it works an absolute treat, but if that's at the expense of it leaching out carcinogenic fumes or something into your house you really don't want to be using it, do you...
