Hi. Can any one recommend an experienced Vstrom mechanic in the Derby area. I have an oil leak ,the dealer where I bought the bike from has replaced the seal on the clutch shaft saying that was it but still have drips of black oil on the floor.
As they are in Doncaster its a pain in the jacksie to keep going back even though they are doing the work under there 3 month warranty

Just another thing it only seems to do this after or during being riddden ,if you leave the bike on its side stand ticking over there is no issue. Oil has been replaced recently and oil marks are always black if that is any helps.

Just a thought,do you have a chain oiler fitted ? Chain oil is always black and very dirty.If the oiler is faulty and over lubing that may be it.

Hello, I'm in Derby also, just a thought, you haven't got a large amount t of old chain lube built up inside front sprocket cover have you?? Had a similar problem myself, was put down to over use of the chain lube. Inside cover cleaned and degunged, less Lube used and problem gone.
Are the black drips oil texture?? Or sticky as in lube sticky??
As for Derby mechanics, I have used racing lines many times for other bikes, yet to take my vstrom there.

Yes I have a Scottoiler fitted and I have checked it, and it is giving 1 drop every 45 seconds which is OK as spec says 1 to 2 drops per minute and it is positioned correctly. That was the first ting I checked as oil can be found on side chain side of rear tyre.
I was looking a Racing lines as they are only a mile from me, just get them to check the bike over if nothing else. I have been riding the bike for 2 months and besides around 70 mile the only other mileage is back and forth to the dealer in Doncaster and waiting for parts and workshop time.

Its definitely oil, the dealer removed the clutch actuator on thursday when he replaced the seal in the clutch rod an cleaned that area up. Also the oil level drops very slightly around 125ml in 75 mile at the last test.

I wonder if he checked the crankcase breather,if it’s blocked the crankcase will pressurize and oil will find its way out via the easiest route.If I were you I would turn the chain oiler off,clean the whole area off with paraffin and recheck after a run.Plus there’s always the chance that he has cocked the job up and it’s still leaking.Did he renew the pushrod ?

They did not replace the push rod, the oils seal had gone oval in shape they showed it to me..

Did they replace the drive shaft seal while they were in there, Kawazuki? And the o-ring that goes with it? That seal can leak, too, apparently.

As far as I know they only replaced item 34.

If you can get the cover off and clean up with plenty of paper, you should be able to spot the culprit.
I suppose at least all the replies on this thread give you some ideas to approach your dealer with.

My money would be on the pushrod seal if they fitted a non genuine seal and also if they didn't replace the pushrod. There is also the output shaft seal in the same area that could be weeping.

They should have replaced the push rod as well as the seal as over time the rod can be damaged .
Also the seal may have been damaged when they fitted it.
It's a rare occurrence for the output shaft seal to leak

Can't help with the reason for the oil leak but dealer wise, I've heard good reports for Racing Lines but I take mine to Burnaston motorcycle services. Behind the petrol station & garage on Etwall Rd. Not done any 'repairs' to mine but some servicing and I've been happy. The younger lad there owned a V-strom himself in the past. Maybe a quick call in to both to ask for advice and see what they say.
However, despite it being a pain I'd go back to the dealer you bought it from for a warranty repair, why should it cost you your hard earned to sort it!!

Yes, just got the bike back, looks like it was the Scottoiler doing odd things at speed so its been disconnected and tested and it now looks OK. So once my replacement screen arrives can do some miles.
