Anyone skilled with a lathe and able to make me a spacer up for my electric trials bike project? Will pay. Basically a solid bar with a hole in the middle is what I need, 900mm or in 2 Halves. I've forgotten the OD and hole size.
-
You sure you need a 3 foot spacer? 90mm maybe?
-
Give me the dimensions, and material and I will sort t, as for skills....... lol lol
If it's in aluminium it's easier as I have loads.
-
I can experiment anodising it purple....last time I stuffed my face n beetroot and port, pissed up my lasses mx5 wheels in spite and it did a wonderful job!!! :haha:
-
:text-worthless:
-
Of the wheels or the event..... lol lol
-
NOT the applicator, if you don't mind!
-
If he asks me to attempt the anodising again he might get a result....he will piss the trials sections....
-
Wurzel, aluminium would be great. 900mm length, with a 15mm hole through the middle the entire length, OD 34mm or there abouts. With the engine removed the swing arm bushings can come loose.
Thanks and pm me your price and details :)
-
:eusa-doh:
-
Bigpie, are you absolutely certain you want it nine hundred millimetres long? That's 35 and a bit inches. Wider than some handlebars .
-
Right you are, 90mm. Got giddy with the 0s
-
Trying to drill a 15mm hole over 900mm will be a challenge!
-
A bit less :eusa-doh: now then lol
-
For a minute I thought he was making a lightweight cannon!
No worries, I will get on it next week, one or two?
No charge as long as you can put up with the thought of me anodising it, it might be brocoli green, I'm kind of off the beetroot after my last episode.... :groan: lol
-
One will be good. It can be pink with polker dots for me, I don't mind. Thanks
-
lol
I will pop you a post when it's out the chuck, and you can PM me the destination, I will delete it as soon as posted.
-
:eusa-doh:
-
Nice one. I'll owe you a ride
-
I like trials bikes, got a Honda tlr200, and montesa 260 4 stroke, that coupled with a digger and 3 acre field,I'm a happy bunny!
Looks an interesting project you have on the go, feel free to divulge.... :)
-
I'd love a 3 acre field and a digger.
The motor is 7,500 watt/120 amp rated, 10,000 watt/200 amp peak and the weight is around 8kg. Gearing I'm going for 10t front 70t rear as that's the largest blank rear sprocket I can find. Geared for a top speed in the mid to low 30 mph range.
I'm going to build a 20s pack of Lithium Polymer 74v off the charger.
-
Jesus! 7.5kw? You won't need a front wheel, it will be a bugger to keep it on the floor anyway! I can't wait to see it in action.
-
And he threatened to let me have a ride....I suspect I would be a cross between a guinea pig and buzz lightyear.!!! :eusa-doh:
What fun!!! :happydance:
-
Well, to keep the battery pack light and also to keep within budget, while been able to provide upwards for 150 amps in bursts I'm going to have to use LiPo batteries. The controller is programable and I can adjust the gearing if it is too much. So hopefully fun. The Mrs isn't as excited as I am about this.
-
Women can be odd like that about stuff like this.
-
Wurzel, could you make a second one up, but 80mm in length please?
-
No worries, one at 90mm, tother at 80mm.
Might be able to get on them this week.
-
Great. Thank you.
-
I will have these complete begining of next week if that's OK, I'm climbing on amjob I got called into this week, and sorry for the delay . :)
-
You're doing me the favour, just at your leisure. The motor is still on it's way from China and I've still got to make up the 72v battery pack and throw a party for my son's 6th birthday
-
I have the material, it won't take any time, and if you wanted them reduced in the centre sections so it had a collar at each end just let me know.
I'm looking forward to a bit of shed time, it's a bit of a hobby making bits.
I bored and sleeved in phosphor bronze my control levers, they are smooth as butter to operate, and no play in them, what fun!
-
I don't need any fancy collars or anything, but if you want to be extravagant, be my guest.
To be fair, if I had a pillar drill I could probably make them myself but I appreciate the assistance.
-
Well I'm quite happy to remove a bit of weight out of them , yet retain strength as long as it's the ends that need the diameter rather than the middle part.
-
It is just the ends they need the diameter.
-
OK I'm on it on Monday.
-
Nice one. Thanks
-
If anyone is interested in progress.
While my motor is stuck in customs at Heathrow I've been making a front cover to mount the motor controller on and started making a tank replacement out of MDF to cover with fibreglass. It still needs a lot more work.
I've also made the first battery harness that'll allow me to wire the packs in series to get 84v full charged.

Just got to clean the spacers up and they will be posted.
-
You're a gent, thanks.
-
Ready to post now mate, I did not recess the spacers as they are fairly light anyway.
Pm me a post destination and they will be on their way via royal mail.
-
Great support for another forum member
-
They'll be the best looking part of the bike. Thank you so much.
-
No worries, if you need anything else made up I'm keen, the project looks fun!
-
Great stuff! What lathe have you got there wurzel?
-
It's a little Axminster lathe, Chinese, but set up right it's OK, I have a big old British lathe, a myford, from a school, but need to get it up and running when I get a home for it built. :)
-
:thumb: always handy machines to have.
-
It's fun making stuff Paul, most of my bikes have phosphor bronze bushings in the handlebar levers, dead plush! :fix:
I made a few fancy gear stick knobs for mx5's, my lass loves the knob I gave her...she rubs it to a sheen every time she drives the car.
I have just got a little Excelsior consort, so more bits to make for that.
-
Is that a little Villiers 2 stroke?
-
Too much info!
Joking aside I get the need for such machinery. My dad has a lathe and milling machine at his place. Once my garage is sorted they will be coming over to my house. The lathe is ancient and needs some rework. That will keep me out of trouble for a bit!
-
Yes Rusty, all 98 cc's of it, pretty little bike though.
Paul, get that lathe up and running, those old ones are lovely things. :thumb:
-
Apart from the occasional nutters :angry-banghead: :angry-banghead: this place has by far, the most helpful members I have ever met. This thread is a testimony to that.
To be fair, even some of the nutters are quite good too.
-
-
The spacers Will be in the post(royal mail) today, anything else you need for the project will be a joy to make, just keep us updated on the build, most interesting to me at least.
Normally I can do a fast turn round on the bits, but in this instance I got held up by a never ending contract at work, I contract part time to tree maintenance companies, and got roped into a Leylandi hedge from hell, pouring rain and a 40 foot high, 300 yard long monstrosity to reduce in height and side trim... :groan:
Halfway in the client changed the specs....
-
Clients always change specs halfway in for me but I develop applications so it's no big deal. You can't make the hedge taller once cut and I get to stay inside when it rains or sit in the garden when it's sunny :D
My motor has cleared customs and should be with me in the next few days. I'm currently toying with either making a ghetto vacuum former or getting a 3D printer for part of this project.
I don't need anything else at the moment but if I do I'll know where to come. Thank you very much for making them.
-
Should be with you tomorrow, or Thursday latest mate.
-
They're here and they are fantastic. Thank you. My motor also arrived today.

-
I think a v-twin sounds better!
-
getting a 3D printer for part of this project.
I treated myself to one early last year, then a second bigger one at the end of the year: ran out of reasons not to have one, rather than having specific reasons to...
What did you have in mind?
-
That motor will sound a little better when it's pulling a load, sounds smooth though.
I'm looking forward to seeing it progress. :thumb:
Forgot today, I bored the holes at about 15.5mm, in case you had a thread on the bolts, it often comes up about over, hope that's OK.
-
They'll be fine wurzel :D
Mr Nick, I need something to go where the tank used to be, I was thinking of either vacuum forming something over the MDF, fibreglassing over it or 3D printing something. I've also seen 3D printed levers.
The machines fascinate me, how they can print their own upgrade parts.

Like a glove...

Looking good!
It really gives me great pleasure to see a bit of metal from the engineers scrap bin, where I get their offcuts for nowt, getting used rather than melted down...I'm now an official stromwomble! :happydance: lol
-
lol Stromwomble :happydance:
When I make stuff from scrap I'm a tight f*cker apparently.
-
I get called a few things here mate, but I thought that name rather complimentary compared to the others... :icon_wink:
-
My initial motor mount is made out of scrap while I get the location right. Hopefully once you've had a go TLP you'll change your mind about electric powered bikes :D
-
Shall I bring my own lollypop sticks to catch the spokes so it sounds proper? If it's as unstable as that bleedin' electric skateboard I'll not be bothering thank you all the same....
-
Can I come and follow him on your green lane bike? :thumb:
-
TLP, I was made to dismantle the skateboard. This toy is for grown ups.
Ridaz, you are welcome to, it could do with someone riding it, I've not had chance since January.
-
Happy to give it a new home :icon_drool5:
-
MOT expires on the 11th but you are welcome to borrow it, it's a cracking machine.
-
No other forum has offers like this. What a place! :thumb:
-
Now that's an offer but sadly I can't take you up on it yet... Maybe later in year though but you will be stuck with an Africa twin :smirk:
-
The AT is another bike I'm avoiding for bank balance reasons.
-
**Hijack Alert!!**
Interesting project. How do you control the speed with a normal twistgrip? By which I mean, my glee throttle controls the rev range from idle to redline, and the gears transfer that up the speed range. So my speed range is 6x throttle movement. Your motor is direct drive, I take it, so the entire speed range will be taken up with one fistful of "throttle", effectively making it 1/6th as "responsive" as mine. Are you programming in ramps for steady take up and a "full bore" setting at top end? Intrigued.
-
A fistfull will result in 200 amps to the motor. I'm going to put a limit switch on it. I might eventually hook up a clutch lever that will tone it down the more it's pulled in. You are welcome to give it a go when it's usable. I'll be playing around with the ramp up along with all the other parameters
-
I've now got the motor mounted and it's lively. I'll get a video when I've tweaked the alignment, the chain comes off some times at the moment.
-
"Lively" :shock: lol
-
If you need some shims knocked up I'm your man,I'm laid up with a bust foot so time is not an issue for a few weeks.
-
The power of that motor I would imagine makes it nothing short of pugnacious.... lol
-
"Lively" :shock: lol
In the same way as Hitler was a bit naughty...
-
Ha, he was though.
Cheers Wurzel, I'm using one of TLPs precision hammers to help with the alignment for the initial fit, I'll post if I need anything for it. Thanks
-
Quick video. Not the full battery pack so it's only able to give 100 amps.

-
Most impressive! :bow-blue:
-
:bow-blue:
We've just watched the Eddie the Eagle film, same but more mental. :bow-blue:
-

That looks seriously "lively"!
Brilliant!!
-
I'm looking forward to the 200 amp version now!
-
Me too, but I'm skint now so that'll have to wait till my bank balance recovers before I can buy more.
-
That looks fun!
