Title: Rear caliper bolt Glee (Suzuki part 6918204F00)
Post by: AlanT on October 06, 2017, 10:22:40
I wonder if anybody knows the size of the rear caliper bolt for a glee? I can see it's M8 and approx 40mm long.  I need to replace mine (don't ask, my garage if affectionately known as the Bermuda Triangle), and I'm thinking that if it is a standard size I wouldn't need a genuine part.
Can anyone help?

I would replace it with an OEM part as it's part threaded and needs to be an exact size .

I understand what you’re saying, but I thought I’d check what the actual length is as it could in reality be a standard sized flanged bolt. If it is, replacements will be easier to source quickly.

For exact size, hardness and tensile strength, I'd go with original.

Thanks both, original part ordered.

That's a good choice. The #5 bolt is also a caliper slider and you aren't going to find that anywhere else. The #9 bolt is a regular size metric flanged bolt but it's a 12.9 grade quenched and tempered bolt and you won't find one in your local hardware store.

Thanks greywolf, it’s good to know the spec. I have an advantage that my brother works for a manufacturer of specialist and custom fasteners, so he has access to a wide range of product. Given that the OE bolt isn’t readily available (I managed to find one dealer with stock in the UK), an alternative is always worth considering. It’s a bit like bearings, same part from a bearing specialist = better availability & better prices. That said, the spec needs to be right.

The length of the unthreaded portion of the bolt is important too and that is not covered in the spec that normally only shows the shank diameter and thread pitch. It's easier to break a bolt when applying shearing force where the threads are as opposed to the unthreaded portion.

Indeed. Out of curiosity, I will measure up the new one when I get it and set my brother loose to see what is out there.
