Following on from the Hondaman heated seatcover from the early spring season range, the autumn/winter season brings us to an update.
I removed all the heating element (a long loop of wire), the control unit and skillfully attached it to a retired body warmer using the most cutting edge adhesive materials available. (Masking tape and box tape).
I then turned my attention to the electrical connection interface with the Nail. A simple quick release plug unit was called for, after searching online catalogues for a suitable coupling I instead went for an item from my own stock. A defunct Sky box donated it's power in socket, the male plug was soldered to the jacket. I used a Volvo split charge relay to power the device, the relay is only live when the 'bike is charging so hopefully no flat battery.
Connected everything up, fired up the Nail and Hello presto toastyness.

Do you have any way of controlling the heat or is it a on/off affair? Didn't your DIY insoles lead to a burned foot? Did you do anything technical like measure the resistance of the wire to workout the power draw? :D Give me a shout if you find you want to control the heat.

Looking pleased with yourself there TLP (Takes Loadsa Petrol)
It will keep your Bacon Baguette's warm too
-
Tell us more after Saturday. If there's free WiFi at the hospital.
-
It does indeed have heat control, low, off and high. Low is a pulsed current, high is continuous. High is 4.5 amps, 41 watts. Low is plenty warm enough. The initial carbon fibre insoles did indeed inflict actual bodily harm. :shy: There is still a small scar...
Thanks for the kind offer Bigpie, I'll drop the GPS round one day this week.
-
How much power does this use ???
won't this further affect your fuel economy :) ... that'll mean more fuel stops on ride outs ... sacrificing fun for your comfort :angry-banghead:
-
Sorry Holmsey, at my age I really do feel the cold. I've applied for a winter fuel payment.

Tlp, your a bright spark sorting that out, looking good!
-
Yeah.... great. :thumb: I like DIY stuff. Although you might need something a little heatproof (linen not polyester) between you and the "HOT WIRES to prevent localised overheating.

I wouldn't go running through London underground with that on.
.
-
That has already been mentioned. I wouldn't like to be mistaken for someone would I? That would be fatal. The chances of me running anywhere is very remote, least of all That London. ###
-
Oh! Rusty .... a picture worth a thousand words. lol
-
Ingenuity knows no bounds.
Well done that looks proper crap 10/10.
Of course it would be much quicker & easier to clip a heated car seat cover inside your jacket 11/10 stuff you can only aspire to
-
lol lol lol

TLP on a cold track day.
.
-
And your point is.......?
-
I think you turn the heat up a little too high TLP :thumb:
-
Should I bring one of these tomorrow lol
-
All the derogatory comments are futile, I have total confidence in tlp being more than up to the task af giving himself a roasting single handed! :icon_wink:
-
lol lol
-
Just to report the fire service were not needed today as TLPower did not spontaneously combust :text-bravo:
-
That's a relief...was it more a gentle smouldering? :stirpot:
Or did he try it out on a third party? lol
-
MMMmmm. Yesterday wasn't the day for heated clothing it seems. I left the house all kitted up, Baader Meinoff vest in place but not turned on. I arrived at the fuel station absolutely roasting. The ex works waistcoat was too hot by itself so was removed at the pumps.
I bet that looked worrying on the cctv......
I've ordered a hot glue gun to secure the elements to the jacket. :thumb:
-
Was a warm one yesterday. T shirt weather. Postie was in his shorts.
.
-
Of course he was. It's only October.
-
lol
-
You could figure out a cooling circuit for the occasional warm day....

'tis a thing of beauty

Love DIY stuff,
Aldi/Lidl heated seat covers are used worldwide for diy heated vests(by Brits naturally):

 Very entertaining.
-
Yep I watched that all the way through aswell :thumb:
-
I'm appalled that this video hasn't been removed as fake news. I watched bits of the charlatan without the sound on, let me tell you it was more than enough. An absence of masking tape, box tape or even a glue gun and the inclusion of sharp scissors a sewing kit smacks of outright competence.
I'm disappointed Rids that you feel comfortable watching such disturbing material.

lol lol

I never once said it was a proper job... not of your own specialist standards
