Hi all,
Been away for a while (from the site) so good to know there are still all the familiar faces posting.
Am considering upgrading my Wee and have been looking at the "new" XT.
Anyone have any experience or thoughts?
I think it'll have to be exceptional to replace my current K7, like.
Haven't ventured to a dealer yet.
I'd appreciate any thoughts.
Chris.

Chris,
The Glee is a good value for money upgrade, particularly with the 0% deals. Although why anyone would pay extra for spoked wheels and a ridiculous beak is beyond me

If your K7 is running OK and still has a few miles left in it, why get rid of it?
Nice to buy shiny stuff but in no time at all it will go from being new to non-descript 'old'.
That said there are good deals to be had and you'll have no worries over maintenance for a couple of years.
However spokes are for the past like contact breakers and carburettors (a PITA) and beaks are for birds.

Hi Chris, I'm loving my XT, love its beak and its Spokes. Also comes with a nice SW Motech bash plate, hand guards and Touring screen.

Mr Dinger - Remember that the boss just bought an FJR :)
You're just trying to divert attention from your broken beak :neen:

I think Suzuki are trying to sell off all the L5 models both the proper VStrom and the XT.
Wheels at Peterborough are advertising both types at 1k off list price but it was only the stock they had so colours limited and all had to be registered by 31/12 or would be pre-registered.
When I gave up trying to justify that the Tiger 800 was a 3k better bike and decided to go with a Glee I searched for the ad again and found another dealer with my preferred grey in stock in std guise and they matched the price. Plus did me a deal on accessories as well.
The people at Wheels were very good and I felt a bit guilty having ridden their grey test XT, which was for sale as well, but getting my preferred colour for what is a once only opportunity for me won through.
From memory I think they may have had white and blue XTs and a red std Glee in the showroom but can't be sure as a week before Christmas.
Reading between the lines, although neither dealer would say with unsold stock, I think the VStrom may be seeing the revisions Suzuki have given to the SV650 so better economy etc which may explain the discounting.
I've not ridden an older model 650 but the Glee is an excellent bike and looking forward to my riding this year when I pick her up next week.

You'll have to travel to get a good deal as M&S will not look after you in Newcastle. You'll be offered a poor P/X value as they know most people won't travel, hence why I got my S10 from Chorley...
-
I just checked the Wheels website and they are still listing the £1k discount on both 2015 models. However that may not be accurate as it still lists all the colours, unless they got more stock, and they would now be pre-registered. I'm sure if you rang around your local Suzuki dealers someone would match it.

I had been thinking about a Glee for a while...it was the arrival of the XT with its spokes, beak and other extras that finally persuaded me (strange but true!). Whether it's the standard Glee or XT is down to individual preference - either way it's a great bike. You won't notice much difference in the ride quality between std and XT...the choice is really about aesthetics. I think you'll find either of them a satisfying improvement on the old Vee.
I just hope, Chris, that your decision-making doesn't start yet another spokes and beaks debate!

There's a debate??? :topic_closed:

Alright, 'divergence of opinion'! Think of std and XT as two sides of the same coin. If you came across a pound, would it really matter if it was heads or tails up? Either way it would be a good find. Let's leave the internal squabbling to the politicians.
.......just three more spokes to polish before I go to bed! :angry-banghead:
