There is massive amounts of discussion on the web regarding the benefits (or not) of after market screens for the Strom. Has anyone experimented?
-
I notice the Powerbronze screen is much cheaper than the MRA, has anyone used the Powerbronze?
-
Nope, standard on lowest setting is fine for me at 5' 7". No real buffeting, have done 6-700 mile days with no problems.
-
I'll be investing in one soon as the wind is real bad after about 45mph(6ft tall and 2 and half foot shoulders) and that with the standard screen on full adjustment :( not sure which make yet, will let you know as soon as.
-
The MRA screen is supposed to be good but it's an expensive experiment...Let us know what you buy and how it goes :)
-
I know a few strom owners who have gone for the Suzuki sport screen (small black one), they swear by them, almost all buffeting has gone.

Hmmm so less is more?
Is this true for taller riders?
-
If I remember right I put a tall flip screen on my ZZR11 and there was loads more wind and buffering
so less could be better Mmmm
-
I have both the small Suzuki sports screen and the larger standard screen.
Personally I find the larger screen better. I'm 6' 4" and there is definitely less buffeting with the larger screen. I have to over extend the screen a little by using only the top 2 bolt positions but it's a lot better.
Have seen a screen available from the US that is wider and taller than the standard screen - may try that. Can be seen on Ebay.
I'm a looks whore and use the small screen if I'm dodging about around towns but if going on a run I swap to the larger screen :D
-
Hello all, I have found the standard screen gives less buffeting above 60mph at the lowest setting, at the same speed with the screen on the highest it's a lot worse. Waiting for my MRA Vario atthe moment, I'll let you know.
-
Excellent stuff, you lot spend the money, do the experiments and tell me what to buy.. :D
-
Yeh but you have to buy all the BEER :haha:
-
Hmmm I may have got the raw deal after all

Is anyone going to be bidding on that screen on Ebay ?
Just don't want to get into a bidding war with anyone from here and upset anyone.

Evening all, I now have the MRA Vario fitted, and today I have taken it down to the lowest height setting and the deflector fully out. Buffeting does seem better as yesterday it was the same at 80 -85 (70 officer, honest) as it was before at 60. I will tryto do some comparative tests and post the results and what works for me..
Looks like I'll have to spend time onthe bike over the next few days, all in the name of science of course. Ho hum!

Good man :D

Any further updates Piglumps?
-
Hi All
Won the larger screen and should receive this sometime next week so will so next weekend and test - will let you know how I get on.
I find with the standard screen that there's a little buffeting around the height of the top of my visor so hopefully this will clear that up.
-
I find that the buffeting is right at the top of my lid so another three inches or so could make all the difference.
-
Hello all, MRA still on the lowest fixings and the 'blade' on the centre setting. Wherever I have set this screen so far ithas been better than the standard item. Got the week off so Lady Piglumps and I are hooning over to George white to look at flip-front helmet for her, so we'll make a bit of a detour on the way back to get some 70mph M4 in. I'll let y'all know. Mike

After reading some lengthy reviews I have bitten the bullet and ordered the shorty screen, my Strom is in for a service on Thursday so the nice dealer said he would fit it for me :)
I will of course let you know how it is, or offer it up for sale if it doesn't work for me :?
-
Got my big screen yesterday and fitted it straight away.
Initial tests seem good but I'll do a better report this evening. I can see why the bloke who had it didn't want it though - with it being a tinted screen it's a little strange when you're used to a clear one.
Andy - let me know how you get on with the small screen.
-
Let's see some photos then :) I will do likewise assuming mine gets fitted today... Reports to follow..
-
Hello all, Gt the Vario on the centre setting with the blade about half way out. Still better than the standard screen, although I think the top setting for the screen will be best. Watch this space!(If you're not out Stromming that is...)
-
So, Andy, how's the sport screen?
-
I was going to try it out for a while longer but......
Good quality and looks good on the bike, fitted in minutes all the fixing holes line up..
The buffering from the top of my lid is GONE so it definitely does what it's supposed to do..
Do I like the new riding experience? not sure yet, I did notice myself going faster on the Motorway as a result...
Watch this space

Have you looked at the 'Laminar Lip' ?These were highly rated on the 'Stromtrooper' site when I had my first 1000 a few years ago. The original screen were particularly uncomfortable for people of a certain height - I didn't find them too bad (6ft) so never tried one but they looked like a good idea
-
Have a look at http://shop.heroblobs.co.uk/collections/Suzuki-v-strom
-
They seem bloody expensive for what they are
-
Hello Playmates! I now have the MRA on the top setting with the blade out on notch 2 (that's two out from the closest gap between the two. All buffetting from the screen gone, any wind noise is down to the Caberg Justissimo flip-front I like to wear. One happy bunny apart from I still can't get my pipe to stay lit above 80mph...also found myself going faster than I thought this morning on the way to work!
-
Apologies to Blue Lady - sorry I missed the fact that you had already posted the link to HeroBlobs.
I would be interested in updates on all the options tried so far - any news?
Personally I think less is better where screens are concerned - a smooth air blast is better for me than a noisy turbulence. I often take screens off bikes altogether.
-
Well the small Sports Screen definitely has removed all buffeting from my lid..................but................... I don't think I like it :shy:
So if anyone is interested the screen will be going up for sale....It cost £70.00 so offers on a postcard...
If anyone has the taller screen and wants to do a temp. swap for experimentation let me know...
-
SOLD!! to Dave V-Bomber :smirk:
-
Got it today Andy cheers, I can see what you mean about it not feeling right on the bike but I'm sure it'll grow on me :)
Cheers again Andy :ty:
-
Glad it arrived in one piece :smirk:
-
I've had loads of buffeting with the stock screen so ordered myself the smoked sports screen which I've yet to try (2 weeks yet). I'm 5' 10" and been told if I change my Airoh lid. That too can make a big improvement. I even thought about putting one of those funny things that fit round your neck and the bottom of the lid to keep the wind out.
Anyway I will keep you all posted.
GOD I love that bike!
