Title: Just my opinion
Post by: caspersteve on August 25, 2015, 23:03:02
Hi all
I just wanted to comment on all the screen issues on here.. I'm quite new to the Strom having only owned it a few months and if I'm honest....I hated it... Let me explain,,,, it is the first faired bike I've owned in years and  the buffeting from the front was driving me insane to the point where on Sunday afternoon ona very wet miserable ride in the storms around  Wales I stopped at a fuel station and took the screen off... BUFFETING GONE.happy days.... Now....as I'm on holiday at home for a few days on Monday I've refitted the screen cut the top of the screen down about four inches and refitted on its standard bracket height settings... I've litrally just came back from a similar ride and whilst there is wind blast there is none of the annoying and concentration sapping buffeting ... It really is in my opinion a totally different bike to ride and finally for me enjoyable ... I know wind blast can become tiresome but at least it's a constant blast that builds and falls relative to the speed your travelling at but the buffeting is just like a constant booming noise and feel that I find unbearable and a bit dangerous as it seemed to be all I was able to concentrate on.. Just to add I'm 5'11 and about 12st pretty average I guess and it really has made such a difference to the bike its unbelievable.... Just need to get a screen trim for the cut off end and its sorted..... I would say thou I was lucky as it worked for me but it may be worth buying a cheapy 2nd hand screen from a breaker to experiment with first rather than just hack a chunk off it like I did....... Will add pics soon I'm to knackered now...

I had your model. I'm 6' and experienced buffeting. I bought long threaded rods and extended the lower end to increase the rake back. For me it was the angle of the screen that was the problem. Brackets can do the same. Glad your method worked for you - sometimes the lowest position is better for taller riders. I have the Glee and find the standard screen on the high position fine.

Adjusting the rake would make sense..... I just felt so much relief from not having the screen there...... Possibly a bit rash hacking it down but it worked (luckily) , I may actually try adjusting the rake on a standard screen like you have as I've just found one on fleabay for a tenner and bought it(looks like some scratches will need polishing out but I will need one if the time ever comes to change the bike)  one thing I will add is that with the much shorter/lower screen it has in my opinion made the bike look better and it just seems a bit sportier to ride more involving maybe as now even with the bike in completely standard trim I can hear that little v-twin chugging away nicely and to be honest I never noticed the engine before, its a little peach . and reffering to my introduction post I can now say that" I reckon me and the Strom will get along quite nicely) HUGE RELIEF hahaha :auto-dirtbike:
