Title: Importing my beloved Wee to England
Post by: Inertial on January 23, 2014, 22:26:44: Hello blokes,

I am planning to import my baby from Greece soon. I did a lot of research and know exactly what is to be done. I also read stories of people going through an odyssey to get their bikes here. My only question is, what is going on with the Certificate of Conformity? Do I need one or not? Some people say yes, some no. I will replace speedo and all that stuff but what is going on with coc. Is there an alternative to that? I bought my bike on 2008.

Post by: frez on January 23, 2014, 23:13:17: If you are riding it here then I think you can get away with leaving it on a Greek registration for 1 or 2 years, I forget exactly how long you have. That gives you plenty of time to work out what you need to do with the authorities.

Post by: petestrom on January 24, 2014, 07:26:42: I believe that if you import a vehicle permanently you must get it sorted before using it, I wonder is SVA (Single Vehicle Approval) possible where you have to get the bike to UK specification and take it for a test to a Vosa testing station like they do with Kit Cars and then get it registered here with an age related plate.

Post by: Inertial on January 24, 2014, 09:41:19: I did call the Dvla and they told me I need to register it properly since I'm a permanent resident with regular income for more than 6 months. I did go through the procedure I have to follow with them. They even mailed me all the papers I'm going to need at home. My only problem is what's going on with the Certificate of Comformity, do I need one and how do I get it.

Post by: Chris Graves on January 24, 2014, 11:42:33: I spoke to Suzuki GB re obtaining a CoC for my bike which I'm going to register in France and they sent me the necessary paperwork, haven't done it yet but from memory I think they wanted about £90

Yours is a left hand drive bike and in the UK we drive on the right.

It just would not be safe, would it.
