V-Strom specific discussion / Re: Front Sproket
« Last post by deecat on Today at 13:29:24 »
Some times it can be harder to go to a bigger drive sprocket due to the limited space near the engine.
Three teeth off the rear sprocket is around the same as one on the front, but you will have to shorten your chain. I am currently doing the same at the moment on my 800 and will be going down from a 50 tooth rear sprocket to a 46 tooth, the 126 link chain will need replacing for 122 or 124 link chain.

Depending on how worn your change is you could try a rear sprocket with two teeth less which might be enough for you.

Increasing the front or decreasing the rear teeth will reduce your revs for a given speed. Changes to the front will make a bigger difference per tooth.
The site below is great for seeing what changes will do before committing;

You can load your bike to see the stock and then enter custom gearing to see ratios and rev ranges per gear.

V-Strom specific discussion / Front Sproket

Hi all
A quick question, well I hope so.
My VStrom 250 at 70mph is sitting at 8k RPM.
Can I change the front sprocket to reduce the RPM required at 7mph?
Am not interested in the super fast pull away just to reduce the engine speed when cruising.
If so what would you recommend?
TIA
David

This was not meant to be an actual song, it was just the RUSH boy's goofing around in warm up! One of the bands guitar tech's hit the 'record' button in the studio and bingo. Tight as Yorkshireman for just messing about mind...

Looking forward to reading your first impressions on the new bike. I was talking to feller up at Rothbury last week with an RE and he was full of praise for it. He reckons it was almost a torquey as his 1200GS in real-world situations, nearly as comfortable and a lot more fun to ride. It will hopefully be more reliable too. I don't doubt the reliability bit...

Nice one, pleased for you it's sold, but at the same time it's a bit sad it's gone. Just the beautiful Triumph to go  :thumb:
