Givi Airflow on a Glee - advice wanted.
« on: August 31, 2018, 14:26:05 »
Hi all!

Loving my 2014 650 still. Haven’t missed my bigger engined bikes at all.

I’ve struggled however (as most seem to) with the screen.  I went along with the general opinion on this forum and ordered a Givi Airflow.   It hasn’t made that “wow what a difference” effect I was expecting.  I started with it mounted on the middle holes and found the buffeting at 80mph was still quite significant no matter where the adjustable screen was set.
I again tried with the screen mounted to the highest holes. This seems to work best with the screen at its lowest adjustment.  But I’m still getting that head being hit feeling at high speeds, although a lot less.
I’m yet to try with the screen mounted on the lowest holes. I’ve also tried tilting it toward me more using smaller spacers at the top but that wasn’t nice at all.

So what are your experiences? Where do you have yours set? I’d ask for specifically those with a glee (2012+) 650 as not sure what difference the other bodies will make.
Thanks!

Mine is set on the middle setting and the top screen is about 1" above the lowest it will go.
I am 5'10" and I think normal length body (bit rounder maybe) and it's great for me....BUT I have got Aprillia mirrors on plus extensions!! I needed these to get it right. I also have the mirrors slightly (1/2") off square with each other to make the airflow uneven, if that makes sense?

You may be able to get a better price on them than that, I just searched and picked the first one in the list.

Small spacer at the bottom and a large spacer at the top and as Mick said the blade about an inch from the top  :thumb:

I can't as you need the older screen. Plus I hate it, sorry.

Ah so yours is tilted more upright. That's the opposite to what I tried. I'll give that a whirl thanks.
What holes are you using?

I've got the tuono mirrors too. Hated the look of the originals. I'm 5'10 ish too but with 30" inseam so a taller upper body. With it set on the middle holes I just couldn't find the right position for the sliding screen.
Such a personal thing.

Top holes used on mine, also afflicted with short legs, long body.

I also have a Palmer products screen bracket for the Glee that fits a standard screen £35 +p+p

Actually mine is also using top holes, with the top of the screen just below my eye line... I have a Satnav mount using the middle holes - when using the Satnav above the instrument/clocks (whatever) it introduces more noise

What angle do you have the screen at with the bracket in comparison to standard angle?

Hmm, my Sat Nav is there too on a Cosmo bracket. Whilst it is a good position it wobbles a lot (but that’s a different issue). May remove it temporarily to see what difference it makes.

Hi,

I am not sure if my new screen is a Givi Airflow - but it is a Givi, I got it off this site a little while ago.  I bought some cheap brackets from B&Q and used them to extend the screen upwards to give me the additional height. My old screen is in picture Screen 1 and the new one Screen 2 - hopefully you can see the bodged brackets. I am 1.77 m tall and have no buffeting.

So regarding the comment about the satnav bracket above the instruments I can confirm that mine is much improved having removed it.  I’m surprised how that bracket seems to have altered the air flow so much.
It’s now much better but not quite perfect.  I can actually see now when doing 75 mph which feels much less manic. It definitely gets worse with the screen raised.
I’ve decided I don’t want one of those add on brackets, they’re not for me.

Hello, I am not sure if my new screen is a Givi Airflow

Your have standard Givi screen.
This how AirFlow looks like

I have ordered one, as I'm 1.85m tall and buffeting with standard screen is huge.

So, installed Givi Airflow few days ago, and wow, such a difference.
Haven't play with adjustments yet, just left top screen ruffly in the middle.
All wind buffeting gone now, up to 60 mph there is no noise at all.

Which holes did you install it in?  Still not happy with mine.  I’m aiming for pleasant at 80mph so I can blast up the motorway prior to a nice ride in Wales for instance.

And apologies Admins, please move to correct section if you wish. Never noticed the screen one when I first created the thread.
