Most people know I have an addiction and that I'm always buying and selling bikes. I've owned a few DL1000s and Dl650s over the years and I was ready and waiting to buy the new DL1000 but felt really let down by Suzuki when it was eventually released, so as I tell Mrs Rat, the constant new bikes is Suzuki's fault not mine  :liar:

I sold my last DL650 after chasing my brother in law across Europe and feeling the need for a bit more speed. Enter the Tiger 1050, I loved that bike, although it was likely to cost me my licence.

I won't list them all but...

XT660z, I enjoyed it for what it was but to be honest never found a slot for it, It's too heavy (in my opinion) for any real off roading and not built to be a Tourer, I know some have crossed the world on them but I like my comforts.

XT1200z - I love this bike, it's heavy but that is part of its charm, it feels planted and will cruise at high speed for hundreds and hundreds of miles in comfort and has all the power I'll ever need. I may treat her to an ECU flash to smooth out the power delivery but that's not necessary it's just a nice to have.

MT-09 Tracer - Hmmm, this one caught me by surprise, it has all the fun of the 1050 Tiger but feels so much lighter (only 8Kg according to the spec.). Yamaha says  "It keeps the MT-09's 847cc triple engine, making 115hp and 64.5lbft. According to Yamaha that gives it a better power-to-weight ratio than the Ducati Hyperstrada, Triumph Tiger Sport, Kawasaki Versys 1000, Suzuki V-Strom 1000 and Honda Crossrunner".

I'm keeping a close eye on what happens to the 'classic' DL650, the way the prices are dropping on the Glee the older model secondhand value must surely drop too, this should mean (sorry current owners) that there will be some great bargains soon (that's was me saying I may own a V-Strom again)

I'm a Tracer fan since I was recently looking what to replace the Strom with when the day comes. I went through all the options and the Tracer was alluring. Every time I read about them I want to go out and buy one, good thing I can't really afford it, but the good lady was pushing me to get something new.

The Tracer is probably the best bang for buck bike on the market today.  The only thing I wasn't impressed with on a demo ride was the standard screen, other than that I could not fault it.  At the moment I am torn, head says DL650XT, heart says Tracer.
I'm playing it cool though, no rush, we'll see what happens when the time comes.   :auto-dirtbike:

I find the stock screen fine on the lowest setting.

Current 0% finance makes a big statement in the value for money debate.

Absolutely, even I was nearly tempted and I never buy new - new Glee for 5 1/2 & 4yrs 0% you can pop extras on the 0% too!
It makes many of the used ones way too expensive IMHO :)

Hmm, the car just got paid off, the daughters bike is up for sale making a space in the garage. Do you think my wife would notice if I put another bike in the garage?
Now on a Super Tenere having put 64k miles on a 2011 DL650

I already saw an 2nd hand one for £7400 :)

I looked at a couple of ex-demo's with 600ish miles on the clock which saved a few hundred off of the new price, some dealers even slap on Panniers to sweeten the deal, then it occurred to me that I'd just ragged the demo bike for two hours (which had less than 600 miles on).

For the sake of a few hundred quid I'd rather run a new one in gently  :)

Put it under a bike cover she'll never notice it!

Deposit down on a new race blue one. Collecting it next Saturday and ready to settle in in the traitor's section of the forum. The Wee will go after I repair it.

For chrissakes Martin, don't leave us, or there'll be no red names left with Stroms on the Strom site!
