standing Oil
« on: May 04, 2014, 19:18:22 »
if this is in the wrong thread please move.

although not directed towards the v strom specifically a small question regarding oil.

I am about to bring my scooter out of hibernation after her being stored whilst flying about on the newly purchased Suzy.
she has been laid up since before Christmas and not moved or started but she had an oil change just before storage.
My question is this .... Will the oil be okay to leave and just run her as normal or will the weather have affected the oil whilst it was just standing there in the shed?

Thanks in advance  :thumb:

Leave the oil in, it'll be just fine.

Agree with Jacko, loads of bikes are laid up over the Winter and just used in the Spring without being prepped.

Thanks Martin.

I have used the scooter for 3 years day in and day out in all weathers, Oil change every 1000 miles as she does a lot of stop/starting crawling round central London doing The Knowledge.    it's the first time she has been idle for so long so I am in an unknown place.

My W650 was laid up for 9 years.........................yes I changed the oil, actually changed it twice, using the first lot as flushing oil. The stuff that came out wasn't too bad.

The CB400-4 I got had been stood for about 30years, but prepped properly for storage (the engine at least) and it was better than I thought, it needed changing but didn't look as bad as I thought it might!

Washed and started her up yesterday ......... after the initial coughing she sparked into life and run just like I remembered .......... checked the oil this morning and it's still as clear as when I put it in.

Don't know what the panic was all about  :haha:

Jealousy is very unattractive. At least you didn't have to go to a school concert last night and listen to innumerable unpractised teenage musicians until yawning time.
