Universal friction reducer - has anyone else here used it in their Strom?

I'm about to add it in prior to my European trip.

Cheers

I tend to stay away from additives. I'm not convinced by their "user testimonials" and believe that decent quality oil should be quite enough.

as bikes with wet clutches WILL get issues with clutch slip when using oil rated as "energy conserving" or "reduced friction" I'd recommend you don't use this unless you want to immediately be replacing your clutch discs.

It would be bike in an engine with a separate dry clutch like a the 1150 or 1200 BMW's but not in the V-Strom!

From past experience in Industry there is no doubt that some oil additives work, but do not use when you have a wet clutch as already been stated.

 :)
Do it today as there may not be a tomorrow.

it does state on their website it is suitable with wet clutches- the only way to truly find out is to use it, but new clutch plates cost £45min for crap ones and if you're not a mechanically minded person your looking at a fair bit more for a dealer to do the replacement.

I would never use an oil additive. Modern oils work very well. Nothing else is needed. What would they do that would be worth the money? Most add solids like graphite and PTFE that can clog oil passages and do not adhere to engine parts.

I agree. Most vehicle manufacturers these days specifically recommend not to use additives at all. Just give the bike an oil (& filter if scheduled) change before you go. Use a quality oil as specified and take a little extra with you if the bike is likely to use any during the trip.

Waste of money imo . A good branded oil is all it needs .

+1 to what's been said already. Rather spend the extra cash on a good double ester based fully synthetic motorcycle oil.

OK, I think that is enough about oil, between here, the deauville owner forum and the idiots on the GZ125, who think fully synth oil will cause clutch slip on a 10hp single, I don't think I could take another oil thread!  :angry-banghead:

Fair enough, I'll keep it out of the engine then!

Thank you for your feedback.

I think I'd rather spend the extra on some double distilled cognac and leave the oil without any additives.

Seriously I hammer my bike engines, change the oil and filters at requisite intervals and so far no problems.  Cue the ZZR throwing a rod through the side of the block tomorrow morning.

have used active8 in a couple of my bikes including my new vstrom got to say its great never experienced any problem with clutch slip and I'm getting a few more miles to the gallon when you first use it put the whole bottle in. then every 5 oil changes or 25.000 miles then you only need half a bottle from then on. I repeat never heard anything about clutch slip I think people get frightend about this. would recommend activ8
