Title: ACF50 Application?
Post by: grumps on July 11, 2016, 17:49:12
The pretty useless applicator supplied with ACF50 has split.

How do you apply it in quite small quantities? I don't have an air sprayer.

Thanks

David

I should add that some places I want to apply are not easy to get at witha cloth or brush - like up the top of the shock on my lad's Divvy 600

Me too. I use a compressor now, although it's quite difficult to get the spray amount and pattern right. IIRC, a 1.5 nozzle in a gravity fed paint gun is best, with the pressure right down. As an aside, I also tried using a paraffin gun for applying S-DOC 100 and whilst it certainly did the job in terms of coverage I very quickly went through a whole bottle's worth in one application, which is a tad expensive!

Before I bought a compressor I had the same problem with the supplied bottle eventually giving up the ghost. I eventually found that a chef's olive oil spray was the best (like this one for £3.50: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Stainless-Steel-Olive-Oil-Bottle-Mister-Spray-Spraying-Sprayer-Pot-Cooking-Tool-/111470160065) since its designed to spray viscous liquids like oil (whereas the garden sprayers aren't designed to spray anything more viscous than water).

That's a thought Simon - thanks.

I don't really want to invest in compressed air. I know what will happen - shot blasting gear, paint spraying gear, tyre inflation ........it would never stop!

Grumps, I've read your reply a dozen times but I still can't see what the problem with buying a compressor is  :)

All sounds positive to me too!

Empty wallet is a negative.

More time away from the family while you play with new toys, negative or positive based on if you like your family or not.

I know what I mean, it would be a slippery slope

Does dunking the plastic squirty bottle in a bucket of hot water help the ACF50 to spray any easier? Or is it just that when you do it with a spray can, the propellant expands and gives it a bit more push?

Put it in hot water and it works a lot better at spraying seems to go further as well.
