AliExpress spotlights
« on: September 22, 2023, 19:06:31 »
I fitted some cheap AliExpress spotlights this afternoon. As usual with cheap stuff in definitely wasn't plug in and play. I swapped out the switch for something better and soldered a connector between the switch and wiring lume. I had to swap out the nuts for self locking ones. I wired it into my auxiliary fuse box. Pleased with the results. This winter will tell me if they are cheerful as well as cheap.

Do you have a seperate on / off switch to turn off the aux lights if necessary or how did you wire them in?

Was your switch the black one with a big red on button and thin off, and when you turn it over it has all the contacts visible on the back?

Mine went in the bin immediately! Utter garbage.

To answer the questions.
I wired them into an auxiliary fuse box that I installed.
I have used a switch which I wired in series rather than parallel with a relay.
Yes it came with a really crappy switch with the spade connectors at the back. I used a £2 switch off of AliExpress but it is much better than the original.
So far so good. The spotlights came with a 30 amp fuse which seemed wrong for the wattage. I've wired in a 5 amp fuse. It hasn't blown yet.

I've bought a few things from AliExpress over the years and they've  been cheap and quite fast but recently, I bought carbon fibre stick on for the filler cap. I'm told by  AliExpress that they have arrived but they haven't. I won't be buying from them again

Caution buying from AliExpress, did purchase a few items OK , but the last item was faulty, seller refused to refund and the appeal to AliExpress was a waste of time, so if you can't afford to loose your purchase play safe and avoid AliExpress, read all the sellers reviews to see if you can find some negative reviews.

I would always recommend paying with PayPal over a card payment, or if you have to pay by card, pay with a credit card, especially if its >£100.

I've had a few "dodgy" resolutions from AliExpress, they mainly seem to uphold everything except for blatently misadvertised things (such as my "100W" spotlights which came in a box marked "25W").

N.b. I know there's no way in hell those lights were 100W with the piddly cable it had, I was more interested in the Halo light on the front!
