raising money for PDSA
« on: August 13, 2013, 20:31:49 »
Hello blokes and Gals!

Trying to spread the word and therefore to raise some money for charity that I work for...

I'm about to embark in the end of Sept on quite a bit of a challenge and I'm sure that some of you  :shy:  won't be keen to support as it's involving the non motorised two wheel vehicles  :shy: but it's all about the cause!

Basically if I haven't put you off so far , PLEASE, read the info about the challenge below.

Coast To Coast Unsupported Ride

28-29 OF SEPTEMBER 2013
15 HOURS!
150 MILES!
4500 METRES OF TOTAL ASCENT!
Barron -in-Furness TO Whitby

On 28-29th of September I’m planning to cycle from Barrow-in-Furness (west coast) to Whitby (east coast) within 15hrs. At least that’s the plan  :)
The main challenges:
1.   Distance and total ascent  – obviously
2.   Orienteering – the route is unmarked and will be relying on maps and possible GPS
3.   No support vehicles, repairs or massages  :)  unless I’ll get volunteers for at least the last one     Anyone?
4.   All provisions, tools, aids are carried on the bike
5.   Time frame

This challenge is readily available through several companies that organise this sort of events BUT the main difference is that I’m trying to do it on my own (unless I’ll find soul that will sign up for this sort of gruelling event – which is unlikely).  Usually the pack of riders is followed by a van with support crew that will be able to help anytime – not in my case. As it is quite a bit of a challenge, I need some sort of stimuli hence raising funds for PDSA.
SO, WISH ME GOOD LUCK!

If you would like to contribute, you can do here:

Also it would be great if Moderators can promote it in some way and multiply the message in different forum branches ...  :shy:

BTW some info re PDSA - People Dispensary for Sick and injured Animals. The charity provides FREE (contribution based) treatment for animals that belong to people who are unable to get private vets services due to its costs ...  We are for animal welfare as is RSPCA, the only difference between us is that we DO NOT get any government funding whatsoever and we survive only on people contributions and legacies... Hope it gives a bit of insight in our charity  :)
