Second ride with my glee
« on: February 24, 2014, 07:19:46 »
Nothing fancy, but here is the second time I used the vstrom I bought in October. Think I will be pleased with it, coming from a KTM 690 enduro R

How did it handle the gravel at that speed?

Where is that?

It was mostly well packed gravel with few bumps, and it handled pretty good, it's with the Tyres that came with the bike. Think I will be able to go pretty fast now when I take it out after the winter and have bar risers mounted and the engine has done it's first important miles so I can pull that throttle. Has to get used to a bike with abs though.

Very nice! I wish we had more roads like that over here!

You can install (or at least, you could on the Wee's) a switch that disables the ABS. I can't imagine the glee is much different, although I haven't seen the wiring diagram.

Sweden is full of them:)  thanks for the tips. I will ride the bike a while and see if I'm satisfied or not before I make any changes like that. The thing is that I did ride my KTM 690 on those roads and smaller ones, in speeds that is far from healthy. As I already suffered from one broken left leg, one broken right leg, two broken arms, one broken rib..and all from different motorcycle accidents, it might be a good idea to slow down a bit.

Put it on the centre stand/lift the rear wheel and spin the rear wheel with the ignition on. The ABS will disable, a warning light will be on to show this. Next time you turn the ignition off and back on it will reset.

Does this work on the Glee Juv? It doesn't damage any electrics does it? Forgive my ignorance, I've never had ABS before and with all the potential fault codes kicking about nowadays you never know what can develop a fault.

It should do - the ABS sees the rear wheel turning, but not the front, and assumes that the front sensor has failed. Upon a reboot, it does a new system check, and finds both sensors working again and it's happy :)

The only disadvantage is that it means you have to stop the bike every time you want to enable/disable the ABS (well, to be fair you could switch the ignition off and on while rolling) but with the switch method you can do both on the fly :)

Tried if today but it didn't work. Central stand, ignition on, abs-light is on, rolled the rear wheel, rode away, abs-light goes of and abs is still working

Iirc, it has to spin quite a few times. But then the Glee could quite easily use a different unit or software (Greywolf?)

Looks like the Glee might be checking the sensors later again after it has seen a problem previously. Seems the ABS fuse is the next option.

Works on the Glee if you spin the wheel using the engine in first gear then disabled until reboot

Just tried on my ride out after work and does work for me, on centre stand, front brake on, 1st or 2nd gear, let clutch out, spin wheel, ABS light comes on and stays on ABS not working.

Maybe you have to ride a bit first for the light to go out and then do it?

Shall the engine be running when I put it on center stand? I had it on center..started, let it run on first gear a while...then drove away. Abs light went out and it was as always...on
