Stay safe on the roads this Christmas

With Christmas approaching the South Gloucestershire Council Road Safety Team are already eager to give away Christmas presents to cyclists, motorcyclists and pedestrians to help keep them safe during the winter and indeed throughout the summer.

Senior Road Safety Officer Alan Hale told us “My team have been concerned that whilst many such road users wear a high visibility tabard they then reduce its effectiveness by wearing a haversack that blocks out most of the rear section of the garment, arguably the most important section. So to address the problem we are giving away high visibility rucksack covers that also have retro-reflective strips. I have stopped a few cyclists during my daily commute and presented them with a cover and they have been very appreciative.”

The covers are elasticated to ensure they stay on and have contrasting fluorescent yellow and orange panels, the retro-reflective stripe and a small mesh pocket for odds and ends that might need to be readily to hand.

Anyone interested in receiving a free cover can write to the team at ‘Haversack Cover Offer’, Road Safety Team, South Gloucestershire Council, Broad Lane, Yate, South Gloucestershire, BS37 7PN providing their postal address or they can ring the team on 01454 863607 .
